ODAC Announces Men's Basketball Tournament Field

FOREST, Va. --- Nationally top-ranked Randolph-Macon College sprinted through the ODAC season with an unblemished 16-0 league record on the way to securing the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament.

After a year away from its friendly confines, the ODAC Tournament returns to the Salem Civic Center for final-eight play following first round action on two campus sites at the beginning of the week. Competition is slated for Monday, February 21, at the seventh and eight seeds. The winners of those two games will join the top six seeds in Salem for traditional quarterfinal through championship competition beginning on Thursday, February 24.

As competitive as the ODAC season can be, ties are not a rarity when determining the final 10-team bracket. There were two such scenarios this year that impacted the event's seeding, but none of the top-five seeds were affected. Along with #1 Randolph-Macon, Guilford College (13-3), Virginia Wesleyan University (12-4), Washington and Lee University (10-6), and Roanoke College (9-7) earned seeds two through five from their standings' positions, sequentially.

Eastern Mennonite University, Hampden-Sydney College, and the University of Lynchburg each finished with 8-8 league marks. Head-to-head comparison, the first step in the ODAC's tiebreaking procedure, sorted through the three-team deadlock. Lynchburg went 2-1 in games amongst this group, earning the Hornets the sixth seed. Hampden-Sydney went 1-1 in these games, which affords the Tigers the seventh position. Eastern Mennonite went 1-2 against H-SC and LYN, garnering the eighth seed for the Royals.

Bridgewater College (5-11) placed solo ninth to earn the corresponding seed in the tourney field. The final position, however, was determined by head-to-head tiebreakers. Both Randolph College and Shenandoah University posted 3-13 conference records. In their lone matchup of the season, SU claimed a 76-72 triumph, which awards the Hornets the final seed in the bracket.
