Maroons To Face Top-Seeded Generals in Semifinals
SALEM, Va. --- Fourth-seeded Roanoke College
claimed a 5-0 victory over number-five Guilford College Saturday in
an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Tennis
Tournament quarterfinal.
The Maroons (13-6) advance to play top-seeded Washington and Lee
University next Saturday (4/28) at Randolph-Macon College in the
semifinals. Guilford ends its best season since 2008 with a 9-9
overall record.
Roanoke scored three points by taking each doubles match, including
two tight contests. The number-two tandem of Jennifer Antoszyk and
Lucy Webb claimed an 8-6 win over Guilford rookies Haley
Andrews and Allison Hewitt. Roanoke's Haley Goodes and
Brianna Carroll needed extra points to down
Guilford's Adelaide Ayres and Dominique Crespo,
9-7.
The Maroons clinched the victory with Corbin Leitch's 6-1, 6-0 win
over Natalie Suttonat second singles and Antoszyk's
straight-set, third-singles win over Guilford's Kim Kleimeier.
With the match's outcome determined, the remaining singles contests
were not finished.
