Randolph-Macon Defeats Shenandoah in ODAC Quarterfinals

ASHLAND, Va. --- The third-seeded Randolph-Macon women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches and freshman Sarah Hinson (Nashville, N.C./Northern Nash) won the clinching singles match in a 5-1 victory over No. 6 Shenandoah Sunday afternoon at the Banks Tennis Center.

The Yellow Jackets (14-3) advance to the ODAC semifinals on Saturday, May 2 on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan in Norfolk. R-MC will face the winner of #2 Roanoke vs. #7 Hollins, which will be played on Tuesday, April 28.

Sophomores Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va./Prince George) and Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va./Warhill) picked up the first point for R-MC with an 8-0 victory at No. 2 Doubles. Senior Angelina Sportelli (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) and sophomore Kelsie Grice (Hoover, Ala./Charlotte Country Day) gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Hornets (13-6) took No. 3 Doubles, so the Yellow Jackets needed three points in singles to capture the match.

Freshman Hannah Trueblood (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 Singles. Grice posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 Singles. Hinson ended the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 Singles to give R-MC a 5-1 triumph.
