Roanoke Downs Hollins in ODAC Quarterfinals

SALEM, Va. --- The Roanoke College women's tennis team advances to the 2015 ODAC Women's Tennis Championships quarterfinal game, after defeating Hollins University 8-1 on Tuesday.  The Maroons enter the semifinals with a record of 16-5, while Hollins closes the season with a record of 8-11.

With the win, the Maroons have tied the school record for wins in a season with 16, previously set in the 2014 season.  Roanoke is currently on a six match win streak, defeating those opponents by a total of 36-6.  If the Maroons can get past the semifinals, the Maroons could enter the ODAC Tournament Championship match for the third consecutive season, and the third time in school history.

The Maroons will face off against #3 seed Randolph-Macon, who defeated Shenandoah 5-1 in the quarterfinal round.  Roanoke finished the regular season with a 10-1 record, and their most narrow margin of victory in conference play came in a 5-4 victory over the Yellow Jackets.  That match will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, with the championship game on May 3rd.

The Maroons swept Hollins in doubles action.  Emily Henderson and Briell Smithdefeated Victoria Coffee and Tiffany Hodges 8-2 in the #1 position.  Kristen McDowelland Emma Barker topped Htet Myat San and Jhovanna Salmeron 8-2 as well, in #2 doubles.  Alexandra Martin and Kaitlyn Diskerud picked up the win at #3 doubles, 8-5 over Amelia Verkerk and Rikako Hirayama.

In singles action, the Maroons won all matches from #2 to #6 singles.  Smith defeated Hodges 6-1, 6-2 in #2 singles.  Emma Barker bested Salmeron 6-1, 6-2 as well at the #3 position.  Diskerud picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Verkerk in #4 singles.  Catherine Lee and McDowell swept their opponents, 6-0, 6-0 in #5 and #6 doubles, respectively.
