Emory & Henry Volleyball Defeats Guilford, 3-1, Friday Evening On The Road

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (12-11) saw two players reach double figures in kills as it defeated former Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Guilford College (6-17) by a 3-1 score Friday evening on the road.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set and pushed its margin to 13-6, forcing a Guilford timeout. The Quakers closed the gap to 15-12 and also to 21-19 but the Wasps responded in the end with four of the final five points to take a 25-20 win.
- The second saw GC open up a 13-7 lead early. The two squads traded points as E&H went on a 4-1 run late to get within two (22-20) but three in a row by Guilford tied the match up, 1-1, with a 25-20 win.
- The Wasps started the third on a 4-1 run pushing the margin to 13-4. A 7-2 scoring spurt by the Quakers trimmed the deficit to 15-11 but 10 of the next 14 went E&H's way for a 25-17 victory and a 2-1 lead in the match.
- Emory & Henry continued its run to start the fourth, going up 5-0 but five in a row by Guilford knotted things up. Down 11-9 later in the frame, the Wasps went on a 9-1 run to lead 18-12 and after three in a row by the Quakers put up another four to lead 22-15. GC scored five of the next six to get within three, 23-20, but the mountain was too high to climb as E&H scored the final two points to win the set 25-20, and the match, 3-1.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) hit .306 (13-2-36) to lead all players, adding four blocks and seven digs while freshman outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) came just shy of a double-double with 10 kills, nine digs and two aces.
- Sophomore middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) went for seven kills and four blocks as freshman setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) put up a double-double with 20 assists and 18 digs.
- Sophomore libero Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) registered 18 digs as junior outside hitter Savanah Keesee (Madison Heights, Va.) added 14 digs.

Guilford Individual Leaders
- Kaitlyn Kelly recorded 13 kills while Cydney Scott put up a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs.
- Adison Needham had 11 kills while Maddi Page dished out 37 assists and 12 digs. Avery Lemons collected 14 digs to go along with two aces.

- Emory & Henry remains on the road on Tuesday when it returns to the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina to face Carolina University (formerly Piedmont International University) at 6:30 p.m.
