    The University of Lynchburg equestrian team won its second-consecutive National Collegiate Equestrian Association single discipline national championship Saturday!
  • Lynchburg Wins First ODAC Equestrian Title

    The University of Lynchburg turned hosting its first ODAC Equestrian Championships on home soil into an extended venture as the Hornets lifted the first conference trophy in program history on Friday afternoon at the University of Lynchburg Equestrian Center. Lynchburg's effort was powered by three riders placing inside the top-eight to earn All-ODAC laurels. Lynchburg, winner of the 2022 NCEA single discipline national championship, garnered 18 team points to add an ODAC equestrian prize to its new grounds at Patrick Henry Family Services Farm in Rustburg, Va. Sweet Briar College and Hollins University tied for reserve champion at 13 points with the Vixens taking the runner-up honors on tiebreakers (cumulative team scores from both fences competitions). Washington and Lee University placed fourth with 11 markers, and Bridgewater College came in fifth with eight tallies. Eagles junior Kelsey Quinn collected ODAC Rider of the Year accolades as the top overall scorer from the two competitions over fences. The same criteria is used to determined ODAC Rookie Rider of the Year with W&L first-year Elisabeth Marek placing fourth to earn that moniker. Lynchburg mentor Phillip Williams garnered ODAC Coach of the Year distinction from his peers, while fellow Hornet Lori Ohanessian received ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition from the conference's athletic communications personnel.

    The University of Lynchburg has previously served as the host in name of the ODAC Equestrian Championships, but this will be the first time the Hornets welcome the conference's competing schools to its new home facility. Five competition teams of four riders each will compete over three sessions at the University of Lynchburg Equestrian Center on Friday morning and afternoon, March 17, to determine the 2023 conference champion.

  • W&L Claims ODAC Equestrian Title in Ride-Off Over Sweet Briar

    Overtime is a common function in just about all sports. But what does that look like in the world of ODAC equestrian? For just the second time in league history, a "ride-off" was needed to determine the 2022 ODAC Equestrian Championships team champion. Sweet Briar College has been involved in both instances with the Vixens claiming the 2016 trophy over Randolph College in the four-rider tiebreaker. This season. the Vixens finished as reserve champion to Washington and Lee University, which captured its first ODAC crown since 2014. The Generals have now won three championships with their first coming in 2006.

    It has been seven years since Washington and Lee University served as host of the ODAC Equestrian Championships, but the Generals are set to serve as the stewards for this season's event at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Va.     Almost two years have passed since the conference's teams conducted a championship event, but Sweet Briar College stood inside the ring as champions for a second straight occasion on Saturday afternoon. The Vixens topped the team standings to collect the program's fourth ODAC trophy since 2015. Sweet Briar earned 19 total points to claim a three-point win over second place Washington and Lee University. Bridgewater College and the University of Lynchburg tied for third on points follow two fences classes and one flat class at the Harriet Rogers Riding Center at Sweet Briar College. The Eagles earned third place distinction via conference tiebreakers.

  • Sweet Briar Wins Third ODAC Riding Championship Since 2015

    Sweet Briar College returned to the top of the ODAC riding ranks as the Vixens claimed the team title at the ODAC Equestrian Championships on Saturday at the Bridgewater Equestrian Center. This is the third crown in the last five years for SBC's riders, joining team victories in 2015 and 2016. SBC was the runner-up each of the past two years, adding to the program's sustained level of success.

    The annual ODAC Equestrian Championship heads to the Harrisonburg-area as Bridgewater College welcomes the conference's six competing schools to the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center. Bridgewater last served as championship hosts in 2014, which featured a one-point victory (17-16) for Washington and Lee over the host Eagles.

    Hollins University has named Sherri West as director of the school's equestrian program and head riding coach. She will oversee all aspects of the program, including teaching classes, conducting practices, and preparing the equestrian team and individual riders for competition in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).

    A long championship drought ended on Friday afternoon at the Harriet Rogers Riding Center at Sweet Briar College as Randolph College rode a stellar performance from its four-woman team to capture the 2018 ODAC Equestrian Championship title. The WildCats hoisted the league hardware for the first time since 2005 (then as Randolph-Macon Woman's College).

    For the third time in four years, drama featured at the ODAC Equestrian Championships with a tight finish after three classes of competition at the Kirby Riding Ring and Stables at Hollins University. The host proved the victor, collecting 17 points to deny Sweet Briar College a third straight league crown by just one point. Lynchburg College rounded out the top-three with 12 points, earning the Hornets their first out-right third-place finish since 1995.

Roland comes to Hollins from Palm Beach, Florida, and brings more than three decades of hands-on experience as a horse trainer, riding instructor, national and international judge, and program director.

The Vixens proved victorious in a ride-off against the WildCats, securing their second straight and fourth overall conference title.

Washington and Lee finished with 17 points, edging Bridgewater by one point to claim the title. Sweet Briar placed third with 14 points.

She also earned the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for equestrian, and helped SBC to a third place showing at the 2013 ODAC Riding Championships.
