Bridgewater Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 80-64, Tuesday In ODAC Action

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College Women's Basketball Team (3-0, 3-0 ODAC) used a big third quarter to propel itself to an 80-64 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (1-3, 1-2 ODAC) Tuesday evening. The contest, which was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, January 31, was postponed twice due to the effects of Winter Storm Orlena.

How It Happened
- The squads traded baskets for the first three minutes of the game. Emory & Henry then went on a 12-6 run to take a 17-11 lead with 2:23 to go in the opening period.  Bridgewater responded with six of the next eight points to close the gap to 19-18 at the end of one.
- The Eagles tied the contest at 21 with 8:01 left in the second quarter as part of a 10-4 run with gave them a five-point (28-23) advantage. The teams went back and forth for much of the quarter before BC posted five in a row going into the half to lead, 38-31.
- Twelve straight points by Bridgewater in the middle of the third pushed the margin to 55-35 with 4:09 on the clock. Late in the frame, the Wasps chipped into the lead by scoring 10 in a row, but the Eagles took a 67-50 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
- E&H got within 13 points early in the fourth, 67-54, but BC responded to keep the game out of reach the rest of the way for the final 80-64 margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Josie Salyer (Mount Carmel, Tenn.) scored a team-high 13 points to go along with six rebounds, three steals and two assists while sophomore guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) had 11 points, six steals and four assists.
- Junior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) notched 10 points and five rebounds while senior forward Elizabeth Jones (Wytheville, Va.) added six points and four boards

Bridgewater Individual Leaders
- Jada Gross led all players scoring 26 points off the bench. She went 10-for-15 from the floor and hit four-of-eight from beyond the arc.
- Erika Nettles went for 22 points and three boards while Jaden Alsberry posted 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 38.9 percent (21-for-54) for the game and was 1-for-16 from long range. The Wasps scored 21 points at the free throw line, converting 65.6 percent of their free throws.
- Bridgewater went 29-for-67 (43.3%) from the field and connected on 10 triples. The Eagles made 57.1 percent (12-for-21) of their attempts from the charity stripe.
- E&H held a slim 41-40 margin on the boards and outscored BC, 30-20, on points in the paint.
- Bridgewater scored 37 points off Emory & Henry turnovers, while the Wasps scored 24 points off Eagle miscues.

- Emory & Henry will be back on the road Thursday when it visits Roanoke College for an ODAC matchup at 7:00 p.m.
