Emory & Henry Football Blows By Southern Virginia, 47-14, Friday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Football Team (2-0, 2-0 ODAC) scored 33 points in the second half on its way to a 47-14 win over visiting Southern Virginia University (0-2, 0-2 ODAC) Friday afternoon

How It Happened
- E&H got the scoring started at the 10:31 mark of the opening quarter when sophomore running back Grayson Overstreet (Moneta, Va.) ran over the right side for a 30-yard touchdown.
- SVU tied the contest midway through the second when Davis Pinkston found Skyler Johnson with a 26-yard touchdown pass. The Wasps retook the lead on the ensuing drive when senior quarterback Hunter Taylor (Summerville, S.C.) connected with junior wideout Elijah Rice (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) for a 50-yard catch-and-run score. The 14-7 lead would carry into the half.
- Coming out of the break, Emory & Henry marched down the field as Taylor hit senior wide receiver Gunner Griffith (Bluff City, Tenn.) with a 10-yard pass to push the margin to 21-7. After forcing a fumble on the Knight's next drive, the Wasps went back down the field in seven plays to see Overstreet bowl in from one yard out for a 27-7 advantage.
- After junior defensive back Zyquis Law (Charlotte, N.C.) pick off a pass, the E&H struck again with another seven-play scoring drive. This time, junior running back Devontae Jordan (Bassett, Va.) plunged in from three yards out for the score.
- Early in the fourth, Southern Virginia got its offense clicking and put together a nine-play, 80-yard drive which saw Pinkston link up with Jake Schenk for a 21-yard touchdown to make the score 34-14.
- Jordan got back into the scoring column on the ensuing kickoff, going 85 yards down the field for the score. E&H completed the day with 6:16 to go when freshman quarterback Tahleek Steele (Rock Hill, S.C.) hit Jordan for his third touchdown of the day, this one a 17-yard catch for the 47-14 win.
