Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Beats Eastern Mennonite, 71-54, Saturday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (13-3, 7-2 ODAC) pulled into a four-way tie atop the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 71-54 win against visiting Eastern Mennonite University (2-12, 1-7 ODAC).

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry stormed out to a 14-1 lead at the 5:33 mark of the opening period and continued to push the advantage out to 17 (26-9) through 10 minutes of play.
- After the Wasps ran the margin out to 30-11 early in the second, the Royals scored eight in a row to get within 11 (30-19). E&H would go into the intermission up, 38-23.
- In the third, the two teams traded buckets early before the Wasps went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 53-35, on the way to a 55-39 score with one quarter remaining.
- EMU trimmed the deficit to single digits (59-51) with 7:05 left on the clock but an 8-3 run by Emory & Henry put the game out of reach for the 71-54 final margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) led all players with 19 points, scoring 15 in the first half, as she added seven rebounds and four assists.
- Senior forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) and sophomore center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) both had 12 points off the bench as Williams went for eight rebounds and two blocks while Hoppers pulled down five boards and had a block of her own.
- Junior forward Elizabeth Jones (Wytheville, Va.) went for eight points and six rebounds while senior forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) had eight rebounds and three assists.

Eastern Mennonite Individual Leaders
- Chloe Roach posted a team-high 14 points as Chrissy Delawder had 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
- Lexi Deffenbaugh posted 10 points and five boards.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry went 29-for-65 (44.6%) for the game and made 90 percent (9-of-10) of its free throws.
- Eastern Mennonite finished at 31.4 percent (22-for-70) and was just 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the line.
- E&H held a 52-36 rebounding advantage, scoring 14 second-chance points and dominating down low with a 44-26 lead on points in the paint.
- The Royals forced 19 turnovers and posted a 15-7 margin on points of Wasp miscues.
