FOREST, Va. --- Despite some very high winds that knocked out power for much of the state near the weekend, ODAC spring athletes showed they're near mid-season form with some outstanding performances over the past week. Those earning weekly honors include (pictured, l-r, t-b): A.J. Witherell from Washington and Lee men's lacrosse, Dwyer Neal from Bridgewater women's lacrosse, Christina Harris from Lynchburg women's tennis, Harry Shepherd from W&L men's tennis, Michael Bugonowicz from Shenandoah baseball, Amy Large from Virginia Wesleyan softball, Ben Sexton from Emory & Henry baseball, and Hanna Hull from VWU softball.

BASEBALL - PITCHER Michale Bugonowicz, Shenandoah, Sr., Pitcher Bugonowicz, a senior from Hanover Township, Pa., made two appearances for the Hornets and came away with two victories last week. Bugonowicz game up just four hits over 7.2 innings of work. In a 9-0 win over Mary Washington, he worked five full frames and gave up four hits with a walk and four strikeouts. He followed that with 2.2 innings of hit-free ball in a 9-6 victory over City College of New York. He walked one and retired four of the eight batters he faced via punchout. Bugonowicz is 2-1 on the season with a 0.71 earned run average in 12.2 innings of work. He's fanned 13 batters and walked just one. Click to learn more about the past week in ODAC BASEBALL

BASEBALL - PLAYER Ben Sexton, Emory & Henry, Jr., Outfielder Sexton, a junior from Lebanon, Va., brought his power bat to the park last week as he helped Emory & Henry to a 3-0 mark with a .700/.636/1.300 slash line. Sexton was 7-for-10 in the three outings, smacking a trio of doubles and a homer to go with seven RBI and four runs scored. He also stole three bases without being caught. Sexton went 4-for-4 in a 15-11 triumph at Ferrum. Two of those hits were doubles as he scored twice, drove in two runs and swiped two games. In game two against Southern Virginia -- following a 6-3 victory in game one -- Sexton proved the difference-maker as E&H swept the Knights, 12-9. Sexton went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a stolen base, and a walk-off three run homer. The dinger gave him five RBI for the game. Sexton is tied for third in the ODAC with a .500 (11-for-22) batting average. He's collected four doubles with a homer and nine RBI. His .818 slugging percentage is third in the league. MEN'S LACROSSE A.J. Witherell, Washington and Lee, Jr., Attack Witherell, a junior from Wilmington, Del., registered seven points in the Generals 12-10 victory over nationally 11th-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Witherell scored five times and dished out three assists. Two of his goals came within the first minute of the contest on the way to four goals and a helper before the break. He also picked up six ground balls and caused a turnover in the contest, helping W&L snap a three-game losing skid to F&M. For the season, Witherell leads the ODAC in points (24) with the second-best marks for goals scored (15) and assists (9). Click to learn more about the past week in ODAC MEN'S LACROSSE

MEN'S TENNIS Harry Shepherd, Washington and Lee, So. Shepherd, a sophomore from Ridgewood, N.J., went 6-0 at #1 singles and #1 doubles last week as Washington and Lee won a trio of ODAC matches, each via 9-0 scores. Shepherd earned a 6-0, 6-1 in singles play and joined Mitchell Thomas for an 8-0 triumph in doubles action in a team victory over Randolph-Macon. He then scored a 6-2, 6-0 singles win and a 9-7 doubles triumph with Thomas in a shutout of Randolph. Shepherd capped his week with a 6-0, 6-1 singles result and an 8-0 doubles decision with Thomas in a team win over Emory & Henry. SOFTBALL - PITCHER Hanna Hull, Virginia Wesleyan, So., Pitcher Hull, a sophomore from Chesterfield, Va., worked four times and picked up three victories against nationally ranked opponents at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Arizona. Hull went eight full frames in the nationally top-ranked Marlins 2-1 victory over #17 Moravian College. She gave up one run on five hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts. Her second win came with four strong innings in a 10-2 triumph over #13 East Texas Baptist. She surrendered two runs on two hits with two walks and five punchouts. Hull came out of the bullpen for two scoreless innings in an 18-3 drubbing over Birmingham Southern. She then capped her week with a two-hit shutout of ninth-ranked Texas Lutheran. She walked three batters and fanned nine. For the season, Hull is 8-0 with a 0.50 earned run average in 56.0 innings of work. She has struck out 96 batters and walked just 12. SOFTBALL - PLAYER Amy Large, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., Outfielder Large, a senior from Kennett Square, Pa., hit safely in all six games and picked up a spot on the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team on Virginia Wesleyan's 6-0 trip to Arizona. Large went 8-for-17 with four runs scored, a triple, three homers, and 15 runs driven in. She also walked once to rack up a .471/.474/1.118 slash line. She exploded for two homers and six RBI in the first game of the series, a 16-4 victory over William Paterson. She bashed a first-inning three-run shot on the way to a 10-2 victory over nationally 15th-ranked East Texas Baptist. She drove in four runs with two hits, including a triple, in a 14-6 drubbing of the University of Rochester, and plated two more Marlins in a 5-0 victory over nationally ninth-ranked Texas Lutheran. For the season, Large his hitting .433 with three homers. She is tied with teammate Cassetty Howerin for the ODAC lead in RBI (19). Click to learn more about the past week in ODAC SOFTBALL

WOMEN'S LACROSSE Dwyer Neal, Bridgewater, So., Attack Neal, a sophomore from Colonial Beach, Va., helped the Eagles pick up their second straight weekly award in a 20-0 shutout at Salem. It is Bridgewater's third whitewashing of an opponent in its past 18 games dating back to last season. Neal triggered the offense with a game-high four points on two goals and two assists. She collected three draw controls and caused a game-best four turnovers. For the season, Neal is tied for the team lead with eight points on six goals and two assists. WOMEN'S TENNIS Christina Harris, Lynchburg, So. Harris, a sophomore from Falls Church, Va., went 2-0 at #1 singles and 1-1 at #1 doubles in the Hornets 1-1 week as as team. Harris won 6-0, 6-0 in singles play and paired with Caroline Guill for an 8-2 in doubles action in a 9-0 team win over Hollins. Harris was then responsible for LC's lone point in an 8-1 loss to NCAA Division II member Milligan. She won 6-1, 6-0 in singles play and took an 8-3 loss with Guill in the doubles competition.
