ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: March 16, 2015

BASEBALL
Michael Scimanico, Shenandoah, Jr., Pitcher
Scimanico, a junior from Dumont, N.J., picked up a pair of wins last week against ODAC competition. The Hornets' southpaw went six frames towards an 8-1 win at Roanoke, giving up one unearned run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Scimanico followed that with seven innings on the hill in a 9-1 victory ove Guilford. He again gave up just one unearned run on five hits with two free passes and six strikeouts.

BASEBALL
Mitchell Keeler, Randolph-Macon, Jr., Catcher
Keeler, a junior from Mechanicsville, Va., helped the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 week that included an ODAC sweep of Washington and Lee. Keeler was 6-for-12 in the three contests, smacking a double and homer with four runs driven in and four more scored. He also walked once, giving him a .500/.533/.833 slash line. He was 3-for-5 with a solo homer in an 8-3 win over W&L in game one. He followed with two hits, including a double, with a walk and two RBI in game two.

GOLF
Evan Cox, Virginia Wesleyan, Fr.
Cox, a freshman from Ashland, Ky., was the top ODAC finisher at the TaylorMade-Adidas Intercollegiate, competed at the Cotton Dike Course in Beaufort, S.C. Cox fired back-to-back rounds of 74 and finished with a 77 to placed fifth overall out of 87 golfers at nine-over 225. It marked his second top-10 showing of the season and the first top-five performance of his collegiate career.

GOLF
Caroline Holloway, Washington and Lee, Fr.
Holloway, a freshman from Gainesville, Fla., claimed the individual championship at the TaylorMade-Adidas Intercollegiate at the Morgan River Course in Dataw Island, S.C. She shot 78-78 to finish at 156 to win by once stroke. W&L finished third as as team. It was the first win by Holloway this season and her fourth top-five showing of the year. Her 77.9 average is second in the ODAC. Washington and Lee golfers has won the individual medal in the past two events in which it has participated.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Austin Stewart, Lynchburg, Jr., Attack
Stewart, a junior from Reisterstown, Md., put together a 13-point week as the 11th-ranked Hornets. In a matchup of top-10 programs, Stewart scored six times and dished out an assist as the then 10th-ranked Hornets fell at then sixth-rated Endicott, 15-13. He added two ground balls. Stewart registered his second straight six-goal effort in a 13-4 ODAC win over the Guilford. Stewart is tied atop the ODAC with 21 goals and fifth with 22 points.

MEN'S TENNIS
Turner Votipka, Guilford, Sr., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Votipka, a senior from Nashnville, N.C., helped the Quakers to ODAC wins over Shenandoah and Bridgewater. In a 9-0 win over the Hornets, Votipka won 6-0, 6-1, at #1 singles. He joined Erik Meiler for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. In a 6-3 triumph over Bridgewater, Votipka won 6-0, 6-0, over Brandon Larsen, the 24th-ranked player in the region. Votipka and Meiler lost, 8-3, at #1 doubles.

SOFTBALL
Mary Shipp, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., Pitcher
Shipp, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., picks up her second weekly honor after posting a 2-0 week to improve to 4-0 on the young season. Shipp started with a strong effort in the 11th-ranked Marlins 3-1 victory over over second-ranked Salisbury University. Shipp went six frames, giving up one run on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts. That marks the second win over ranked opponent in as many weeks for Shipp, adding the victory over the Sea Gulls to one of Christopher Newport last week. Shipp added her second victory in an 8-0 win over SUNY-Old Westbury. She gave up just one fourth-inning single and fanned three as she faced just 17 batters in five innings in the circle.

SOFTBALL
Caley Hodge, Emory & Henry, Fr., Third Base
Hodge, a freshman from Elizabethton, Tenn., smacked six extra basehits, including five that left the yard, to help the Wasps to a 5-0 start to their seasonat the Gene Cusic Classic. Hodge went 8-for-15 overall from the dish, collecting a double in addition to her five homers with nine runs scored and 14 runs driven in. She added two walks and two stolen bases, helping her to a .533/.588/1.600 slash line. Hodge homered in four straight games, including a two-dinger five-RBI effort in E&H's 13-2 capper agaisnt Elms. She had a double, homer and four RBI in a 12-4 triumph over Minnesota-Morris. Hodge currently leads the ODAC in homers and is fifth in RBI.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Liz Bereit, Shenandoah, Sr., Midfielder
Bereit, a senior from Latrobe, Pa., helped the Hornets to a pair of wins last week, including one over ODAC foe Lynchburg. Bereit opened with six goals and one assist in a 20-6 triumph over St. Vincent. She also collected five ground balls and four draws with two caused turnovers. Against LC, Bereit scored five times, including the game-winning tally with 15.6 seconds to play. She added two ground balls and four draw controls. Bereit is currently third in the ODAC with 24 points and second with 21 goals scored.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Maria Hawkins, Bridgewater, So., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Hawkins, a sophomore from Silver Spring, Md., put together an 8-0 week by going 4-0 at #1 singles and 4-0 and #1 doubles with partner Marla O'Bryan. She picked up her first wins (6-3, 6-2 and 8-2) against NAIA member Lawrence Tech, then and duplicated the effort in the Eagles 5-3 loss to Ohio Wesleyan. Hawkins won 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 and 8-0 with O'Bryan. In a 9-0 win over Sweet Briar, Hawkins topped 23rd regionally-ranked Caitlin Delmas, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5, in addition to an 8-1 in doubles play. She capped her week with a 6-2, 6-2 singles victory and 8-4 doubles triumph in a 9-0 win over Guilford.
