FOREST, Va. --- ODAC teams combined to
score 198 points in three league contests, but week eight also
featured a pair of late victories. Catholic scored the
game-winner in its 28-24 win over Emory & Henry with 0:21 to
play. Washington and Lee traded jabs with Bridgewater in the
fourth quarter and came out on top, 52-42. Randolph-Macon
scored 31 first half points in downing Guilford, 45-7.
Emory & Henry led 21-14 after one half of play in Washington,
D.C. on Saturday, but Catholic's defense stepped up in the final 30
minutes of action to hold the Wasps to just three points.
Meanwhile, the CUA offense flourished even without its top
receiver as quarterback Greg Cordivari registered his second
400-yard game. He set school records in passing attempts (64)
and completions (46) while throwing for 401 yards and three
touchdowns (two INT's). His final TD pass came with 6:26 to
play when he hit Andrew Ouellette from 18 yards out. E&H,
which ran for more yards than its passing yardage for the first
time this season (200-to-198), seemed poised to run down the clock
with 2:35 to play, but a fumble recovered by Miniard Culpepper set
up the Cards final drive. With 21-seconds to go, Mike
Pitsenberger ran in from one-yard out for the game's final
tally.
Washington and Lee and Bridgewater combined for 94 points and
almost 1,100 yards of offense in an offensive explosion in
Lexington. The two teams posted 35 points in the fourth
quarter alone as they traded jabs into the final minutes of play.
Washington and Lee collected 606 yards of offense (its second
game over 600 yards this season), including 444 on the ground.
Quarterback Charlie Westfal accounted for four touchdowns as
he ran for a pair and threw for two more. In the fourth
quarter, he collected 86 of his 109 yards rushing and both scores
as he was one of three Generals' backs to eclipse the 100-yard mark
(138 for Luke Heinsohn, 123 for Brett Murray). Bridgewater,
which threw for a season-high 233 yards, was led by running back
Anthony Carter, who toted the ball 25 times for 233 yards and three
scores. Murray (749), Heinsohn (737) and Carter (715) are
currently ranked 1-thru-3 in the ODAC in rushing yardage.
Randolph-Macon scored 45 unanswered points before surrendering a
touchdown to Guilford mid-way thru the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Zac Naccarato was effective and efficient with
293 yards and two touchdowns on 16-of-21 passing. Drake
Sanders, Vance Hendren and Thaddeus Scruggs each scored rushing
touchdowns. Luke Sellers led all receivers with eight catches
for 196 yards and touchdown. Hendren and Jesse Knepp also
caught scoring throws. For Guilford, quarterback Zac Halbert
threw for 236 yards and a touchdown to Ben King. For King
(five for 86 yards), it was his first TD catch since week
three.
