2018 Men's Tennis Players of the Week

  • Matthew Moody, Hampden-Sydney, So., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Moody, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., picks up his second straight weekly honor after going a combined 6-0 at #1 singles and #1 doubles to help Hampden-Sydney to a trio of ODAC wins and the third seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. He has his brother, Michael, won 8-4 in doubles play before Matthew earned a 7-6 (6-3), 6-4, singles win in a 6-3 victory over Bridgewater. The brothers Moody earned a second 8-4 win against Virginia Wesleyan, with Matthew winning 6-0, 6-1, in singles play towards an 8-1 team triumph. Matthew and Michael picked up an 8-2 win against Shenandoah with the former Moody earning a 6-1, 6-0, singles decision towards a 6-3 team result. Matthew Moody, who has gone 14-0 over the past two weeks combined at singles and doubles play, is now 15-4 at #1 singles and 8-2 in the ODAC. He and Michael are 18-1 in doubles play including 9-1 in the ODAC.

    Moody, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., went a combined 8-0 between action at #1 singles and #1 doubles in a 3-1 week for the Tigers that included a 3-0 run against ODAC opponents. Hampden-Sydney jumped to fourth in the ODAC standings at 5-2 in league play. Moody joined his brother Michael for four victories at top-flight doubles. They won 8-5 over Southern Virginia, 8-4 over Lynchburg, 8-1 against Randolph, and 8-2 against Randolph-Macon. Matthew picked up a 6-4, 6-4, win in singles play against SVU, making him responsible four two of H-SC's points in their 5-4 team setback. He earned a 6-3, 4-6, 10-5, in the Tigers' 7-2 victory over Lynchburg. He added a 6-2, 6-0, win in Hampden-Sydney's 9-0 win over Randolph, and finished with a 6-0, 6-1, triumph in H-SC's 7-2 decision over Randolph-Macon. Moody is now 12-4 in singles play and is 15-1 in doubles play as part of the regionally 15th-ranked doubles tandem with Michael.
  • Mason Robb, Guilford, Fr., #2 Singles, #2 Doubles

    Robb, a freshman from Greensboro, N.C., helped Guilford move to 5-0 in ODAC play with a perfect 4-0 week in two conference wins for the Quakers. Robb and partner Elijah Gregory picked up an 8-4 win at #2 doubles to go with Robb's 6-2, 6-1, win at #2 singles in a 5-4 team victory over Hampden-Sydney. Robb and Gregory again won at #2 doubles against Emory & Henry, this time via an 8-2 decision. Robb backed it up with a 6-0, 6-0, win at #2 singles to help GC to a 9-0 team triumph. Robb is now 9-4 in overall singles action this season. That includes an 8-2 mark at #2 singles and a 5-0 showing against ODAC foes. He and Gregory at 9-3 when partnered together. They're 6-0 at #2 doubles and 5-0 against ODAC competition.
  • Andreas Combos, Virginia Wesleyan, So., #2 Singles, #2 Doubles

    Combos, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., went 4-0 combined between doubles and singles action to help the Marlins to a pair of key ODAC victories to keep the top of the table within striking distance. Combos earned a 6-0, 6-0, win at #2 singles and joined Anthony Wilson for an 8-0 triumph at #2 doubles in a 5-0 victory over Randolph. He and Wilson found the going a little tougher against Lynchburg, but still pulled out an 8-6 win in doubles play. Combos followed with a 7-5, 6-4, triumph at #2 singles on the way to an 8-1 team victory. Combos is now 7-6 in singles play this spring, including 4-2 at #2 singles. He is now 7-7 overall in doubles play and 6-4 when partnered with Wilson.
  • Matt Hwang, Shenandoah, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Hwang, a senior from Garland, Texas, put together a 4-0 week from the top flight in a pair of key ODAC victories for Shenandoah. The Hornets moved to 2-2 on the season in league play with a 5-1 win over Roanoke and a 9-0 victory over Emory & Henry. Hwang and doubles partner Darian Diaz picked up a tight 9-8 (7-4) decision at #1 doubles against RC. Hwang followed with a come-from-behind 0-6, 6-0, 7-5 triumph at #1 singles to help lock-up the team victory. The duo of Hwang and Diaz were back at it against E&H with an 8-0 win from the top ladder position. Hwang followed up with a 6-0, 6-1, victory at #1 singles. Hwang is now 4-3 on the season and 4-2 at #1 singles. He's now 2-2 in league play. He and Diaz improve to 2-1 at #1 doubles, each match coming against ODAC foes.
  • Joe Dillenbeck, Bridgewater, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Dillenbeck, a senior from Penn Laird, Va., picks up his second weekly award after leading Bridgewater to a key league victory last week. The Eagles' top-flight player joined Josh Rodgers for an 8-2 win at #1 doubles. Dillenbeck then registered the match-clinching point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at #1 singles for a 6-3 team victory over Randolph-Macon. Dillenbeck is now 6-3 overall in singles play on the season, all from the top ladder position. He and Rodgers are 7-1 at #1 doubles including 3-0 against league competition.

    Dillenbeck, a senior from Penn Laird, Va., went 4-0 from the top flight in a pair of conference matches last week. Dillenbeck helped the Eagles to a pair of 9-0 team wins over Randolph and Emory & Henry. He won 6-2, 6-3 at #1 singles and joined Josh Rodgers for an 8-1 victory at #1 doubles against the WildCats. He and Rodgers were unblemished with an 8-0 doubles triumph against E&H. Dillenbeck added a 6-1, 6-1 win in singles play. 
  • Grant Sarver, Randolph-Macon, So., #2 Singles, #2 Doubles

    Sarver, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., helped the Yellow Jackets to a 9-0 team win over Penn State-Abington. Sarver won 6-0, 6-0, over Iker Erkut at #2 singles and joined Erick Moulton for an 8-1 win over Erkut and Andrew Mandujano at #2 doubles. He is now 2-1 on the season in both singles and doubles action.
  • Harry Shepherd, Washington and Lee, So.

    Shepherd, a sophomore from Ridgewood, N.J., went 6-0 at #1 singles and #1 doubles last week as Washington and Lee won a trio of ODAC matches, each via 9-0 scores. Shepherd earned a 6-0, 6-1 in singles play and joined Mitchell Thomas for an 8-0 triumph in doubles action in a team victory over Randolph-Macon. He then scored a 6-2, 6-0 singles win and a 9-7 doubles triumph with Thomas in a shutout of Randolph. Shepherd capped his week with a 6-0, 6-1 singles result and an 8-0 doubles decision with Thomas in a team win over Emory & Henry. Shepherd is now 4-1 in overall singles matches and 4-1 in overall doubles action this year.
  • Brett Dubin, Shenandoah, Jr.

    Dubin, a junior from Beechwood, Ohio, led Shenandoah to pair of season-opening team victories with an 8-1 win over Susquehanna and a 5-4 triumph over Division II foe Shepherd. Dubin won 6-0, 6-2, at #2 singles and joined Evan Rosenberg for an 8-0 at #3 doubles against Susquehanna. Dubin against won at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-1, against Shepherd. He and Rosenberg posted an 8-2 win at #3 doubles to cap Dubin's 4-0 start to the spring season.
