  • Danny Lynch, Washington and Lee, So.
    February 04, 2019
    Lynch, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., helped the Generals close out the regular season with a 159-75 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) to finish 8-1 in dual meet action. Lynch swam the opening leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, joining Steven Warren, Jared Nickodem, and Patrick Sullivan in posting a time of 1:36.04. He then went on to win both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events. He posted a time of 0:52.17 in the 100-fly, just 0.37-seconds of his ODAC top mark (0:51.80), and 1:57.86 in the 200-fly, which slots in the ODAC top-five on a list led by his previous conference fastest swim (1:53.24).
  • Caroline Baber, Washington and Lee, Fr.

    Baber, a first year from Richmond, Va., helped the Generals cap off a 9-0 record in regular season dual matches with a 165-81 victory over St. Mary's (Md.). Babe won twice individually and added a third win via relay. She swam the lead leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team, joining Elle Chancey, Laura Bruce, and Claudia Barnett on a time of 1:39.39. Individually, Baber won the 50-yard freestyle in 0:24.73, which is just behind her previous season-best time of 0:24.44, which is third in the ODAC. She added a win in the 100-yard butterfly in 0:59.34, which would be another top-five ODAC swim if not for her conference fourth-best mark of 0:58.94.

    January 28, 2019
    Bird, a sophomore from Port Hope, Ontario, helped Roanoke cruise to a 168-20 dual meet victory over Ferrum in an event competed with the men's program at Hampden-Sydney College. Bird won a pair of individual events and was part of a second place relay squad. She won the 50-meter freestyle in 0:28.14. When converted to yards for ODAC rankings, her time of 0:25.49 shows 15th on the 50-yard free chart. Bird also won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:07.58. That time converts to 1:01.23 for ranking in the 100-yard backstroke entries, which falls just short of her season-best mark (1:01.20) in eighth position. Bird joined Caylyn McNaul, Hannah Petty, and Sydney Sellars in finishing second in the 200-meter medley relay in 2:11.10.

    January 28, 2019
    Tate, a freshman from Boones Mill, Va., helped Roanoke to a tri-meet victory over host Hampden-Sydney (140-64) and Ferrum (168-20) last week. Tate won both events in which he competed, registering a pair of ODAC top-11 showings. He won the 200-meter freestyle in 2:01.93. When converted to yards for ODAC rankings in the 200-yard freestyle, Tate's time of 1:50.47 would sit 11th in the league. In the 400-meter freestyle, he posted a winning time of 4:19.54. That mark converts to 4:59.25 in the 500-yard freestyle field, which ranks 11th on the posted chart.
  • Jared Nickodem, Washington and Lee, Jr.
    January 21, 2019
    Nickodem, a junior from Jackson, Wis., competed in four total events in the Generals tri-meet victories over VMI (156-106) and Randolph (216-33). Nickodem won two individual events and finished third in one more while joining his teammates for a relay win. He claimed both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events with ODAC top-five times. He won the 100-fly in 0:53.03 and the 200-fly in 1:55.81. He added a third-place showing in the 200-yard IM in 2:03.63. Nickodem and teammates Danny Lynch, Steven Warren, and Conner Van Vooren won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:36.07.
  • Ashley Johnston, Washington and Lee, Jr.
    January 21, 2019
    Johnston, a junior from Gainesville, Ga., put together a trio of strong performances with two individual event victories in the Generals tri-meet victory over VMI (203-52) and Randolph (214-25). Johnston won both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events with ODAC top-10 times. She posted a winning mark of 1:01.28 in the 100-back and 2:12.96 in the 200-back. Both times would rank ninth in the current conference listing. Johnston then swam the lead leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay, joining teammates Emily Hageboeck, Ali MacQueen, and Caroline Baber on a time of 1:49.32.

    Lynch, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., kicked off the new calendar year with three individual event victories and a relay win in the Generals 201-61 dual meet victory over Roanoke. Lynch won the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events with times of 0:52.53 and 1:58.23, respectively. Both are second in the ODAC only trailing his own previous season-best times. He posted the ODAC's fifth-fastest mark in winning the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.21. Lynch opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay as he and teammates Steve Warren, Jared Nickodem, and Conner Van Vooren posted a time of 1:36.66.

    January 14, 2019
    MacQueen, a junior from Memphis, Tenn., logged a of pair of individual victories and swam the lead leg of a relay win to help the Generals earn a 217-42 dual meet triumph over Roanoke. MacQueen won the 100-yard butterfly in 0:58.36, which would sit as the third-fastest mark this season if not for her previous ODAC season-high time and the mark of teammate Turner Bobbitt. MacQueen also won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.90, which is second in the ODAC and personal season-best. It trails only the time of W&L classmate Emily Hageboeck. MacQueen was joined by Laura Bruce, Claudia Barnett, and Elle Chancey win winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:39.07.

    Vinson, a freshman from Richmond, Va., picks up her weekly award after helping to lead the Maroons to a 148-15 dual meet victory over Guilford at the Salem YMCA last week. Vinson won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.02, marking just her second time in the event this season and first attempt at the discipline since late October. Vinson was then joined by teammates Hadley Baker, Grace Fountain, and Caylen McNaul in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:48.37.

    Lynch, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., put together a strong showing to help lead the Generals to the team crown at the Washington and Lee Invitational over the weekend. Lynch won three relays and three individual events, setting ODAC seasonal top-times in two solo disciplines. Lynch is #1 in the ODAC in the 200-yard backstroke after logging a pool-record 1:53.77 to win the event. He is also tops the conference in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.80. His winning time of 4:47.57 is third on the ODAC 2018-19 chart in the 500-yard freestyle. Lynch was joined by Steven Warren, Jared Nickodem, and Patrick Sullivan in winning both the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays with times of 1:34.47 and 3:29.45, respectively. The 200-medley time broke the pool record. Lynch's final win came with Robert Holmes, Conner Van Vooren, and Ben Brown in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:08.96.

    Hageboeck, a junior from Charleston, Va., picks up her second straight weekly honor after a stellar outing to leading the Generals to the team title at the Washington and Lee Invitational. Hageboeck won three relays and three individual events, setting ODAC season top-times in each solo swim. She highlighted her day in the 100-yard breaststroke as she won the event with a pool-record time of 1:04.73, which ranks second in school history and eclipsed the NCAA B-cut time. Hageboeck added a win in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:33.77 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.44. Those two times rank third and seventh in W&L history, respectively. Hageboeck was joined by Anna Jamieson, Ali MacQueen, and Caroline Baber in winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:46.71. Hageboeck and MacQueen teamed with Turner Bobbit and Claudia Barnett to claim the 400-yard medley relay in 3:54.45. Hageboeck capped her day by winning the 800-yard freestyle relay with Caroline Florence, Jordan Watson, and Kelly Amar in 7:48.19.

    Hageboeck, a junior from Charleston, Va., highlighted the Generals winning performance at the 13-team Franklin & Marshall Invitational as Hageboeck won a trio of individual events and helped her teammates to three relay victories. Hageboeck set new ODAC top times in the 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley, and 100-yard breaststroke. She won the 200-breaststroke in 2:18.42, but her prelim time of 2:17.04 ranks #1 in NCAA Division III. She swam a 2:08.88 in the 200-IM, which is 12th in the nation, and posted a time of 1:04.88 in the 100-breaststroke. Hageboeck was joined by teammates Caroline Florence, Jordan Watson, and Kelly Amar in the winning the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:48.71. She and Anna Jamieson, Ali MacQueen, and Caroline Baber won both the 200-yard medley and 400-yard medley relays in 1:46.74 and 3:53.35, respectively.

    Sullivan, a sophomore from Pawleys Island, S.C., led the charge for Washington and Lee at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational, helping the Generals to fourth in the 11-team field. Sullivan finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with an ODAC top-time of 4:37.30, which ranks 11th in NCAA Division III. He added a third place showing in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.67. He swam 1:41.45 in the prelims to set a new ODAC best time and rank 10th in Division III. Sullivan capped his individual contribution with a fifth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 0:21.31. Sullivan and teammates Danny Lynch, Steven Warren, and Jared Nickodem won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:24.90, which ranks seventh in the country. The quartet finished second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:32.98. Sullivan was joined by Conner Van Vooren, Robert Holmes, and Fitz Rawls in placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:25.77, while Ben Brown joined Sullivan, Holmes, and Rawls to finish fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:09.82.

    Baber, a freshman from Richmond, Va., put together a four-win day as she helped Washington and Lee defeat nationally 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, 149-113, in a dual meet last week. Baber won the 50-yard freestyle in 0:24.82, which would go down as the third-fastest time in the ODAC this season if not for her previous mark of 0:24.44 and that of teammate Laura Bruce at 0:24.42. Baber left no doubt in her other two individual swims as she took over the conference's top-spot in both the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley with times of 0:54.41 and 2:10.09, respectively. Baber was joined by teammates Turner Bobbitt, Emily Hageboeck, and Ali MacQueen in winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:49.56, which is just behind W&L's season-best time (1:49.21).

    November 12, 2018
    Whalen, a freshman from Berryville, Va., put together four wins including three individual victories to help the Eagles defeat Emory & Henry, 121-114, in a dual meet. Whalen set school records in all four of his races. He won the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyles in 0:25.96 and 0:59.36. He added a triumph in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:07.35. The meet result came down to the final 200-meter freestyle relay in which Whalen led off. He and teammates Raphael Stanek, Jarratt Davis, and Wyatt Seraphin won the event in 1:46.95 to lock up the team triumph.

    Tate, a freshman from Boones Mill, Va., picks up his first career ODAC weekly honor after helping Roanoke defeat Randolph-Macon, 160-102, in a dual meet last week. Tate won three individual events and helped his teammates capture a relay. Each of his times from individual wins against Randolph-Macon rank #2 in the ODAC top times list. He stopped the watches first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterflies at 0:53.44 and 1:57.50, respectively. He added a victory in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.15. Tate was joined by teammates Nick McGrath, Brian Grimmett, and David Adarkwah in winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:18.26, which is just off their previously established ODAC third-fastest time.

    Vinson, a freshman from Richmond, Va., picks up her second straight weekly honor after leading Roanoke to a 139-123 dual meet win over Randolph-Macon. Vinson, who won three individual events and a relay against R-MC, took over the top spot in the ODAC in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.21. Her 200-yard individual medley time of 2:14.35 is second in the conference, while her 400-yard individual medley time of 4:44.54 ranks third in the league. Vinson and teammates Grace Fountain, Anna Engel, and Elizabeth Roberts won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:47.09, good for second-fastest in the ODAC.

    Vinson, a freshman from Richmond, Va., helped the Maroons to a tri-meet victory over Hollins and Sweet Briar and a dual-meet win over William Peace with four first place finishes and a trio of relay wins. In Roanoke's 156-36 and 164-25 wins over HU and SBC, respectively, Vinson won the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles with new ODAC top times of 5:17.04 and 1:59.23. She and teammates Reilly Bird, Sarah Virginia Scott, and Elizabeth Roberts won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:15.92. In a 189-36 victory over William Peace, Vinson again won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:17.92 and set a new program record in winning the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.06. Vinson was a member of two winning relays --- 1:47.56 with Bird, Anna Engel, and Sydney Sellars in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 4:22.76 with Maggie Riggan, Scott, and Engel in the 400-yard medley relay.

    Sullivan, a sophomore from Pawleys Island, S.C., picks up his second weekly honor after leading Washington and Lee to a 166-90 dual-meet win over Randolph-Macon. Sullivan won three times individual and helped his teammates stop the watches first in one relay. He won the 50-yard freestyle in 0:21.54, and then set ODAC top times in winning the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles in 1:43.72 and 4:50.48. Sullivan and teammates Conner Van Vooren, Fitz Rawls, and Robert Holmes won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:27.92.

    Lynch, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., helped the Generals top Washington College, 154-106, in a dual meet last week. He won a trio of individual events, each of which rank #1 in the ODAC or would rank #1 if not for his own previous times. Lynch won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.01 to take over the top spot in the conference. He did the same in the 200-yard backstroke, setting a pool record in the process at 1:55.52. His third win came in the 200-yard IM in 2:00.07, ranking behind only his previous best mark (1:59.19).

    Freibert, a sophomore from Lexington, Ky., helped the Generals to a 151-99 dual meet win over Washington College. She won a pair of individual events and helped her teammates set a new pool record in one relay. Freibert claimed top prize in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.80, which ranks behind just her own season-best mark (1:08.83) and that of teammate Emily Hageboeck (1:06.26) on the ODAC lists. She also won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:29.30, which is second-best in the conference behind Hageboeck (2:21.87). Freibert and teammates Ashley Johnston, Ali MacQueen, and Claudia Barnett set a new pool record in the 200-yard medley relay with a winning mark of 1:50.93.

    Hageboeck, a  junior from Charleston, W.Va., opened the 2018-19 season with a trio of stellar performances that amounted to four individual event victories and five relay wins. Hageboeck won both the 100-yard (1:08.81) and 200-yard (2:30.69) breaststroke events and helped her team win the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.97) in a 159-98 dual meet win over Centre. She participated in and won the same three events in a 166-93 triumph over Mary Washington. She posted respective winning times of 1:06.26, 2:21.87, and 1:49.21. The second time -- 2:21.87 -- eclipsed the NCAA "B" cut mark in the 200-breaststroke. Hageboeck helped W&L win the ODAC Relays as she swam a leg in the winning 200-medley (1:52.40), 3x50-yard breaststroke (1:34.36), and 3x100-yard individual medley (3:09.43) relays.

    Sullivan, a sophomore from Pawleys Island, S.C., kicked off his 2018-19 campaign with five individual victories and one relay triumph in a pair of dual meet wins for Washington and Lee in addition to helping the Generals win the ODAC Relays. In a 156-101 win over Centre, Sullivan stopped the watches first in the 50-yard (21.77), 200-yard (1:44.33), and 500-yard (4:51.50) freestyle events. He picked up three more freestyle victories in a 161-101 win over Mary Washington. He won the 50-free (21.80), 100-yard free (47.97) and 200-free (1:44.07) while also swimming a leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:27.75). At the ODAC Relays, Sullivan helped Washington and Lee win five relays -- 3x50 backstroke (1:13.20), 500-free (4:23.07), 200-medley (1:36.01), 400-free (3:13.33), and 200-free (1:27.75).
