2013 Cross Country Runners of the Week

  • Andris Goncarovs, Guilford, Sr.
    October 21, 2013
    Goncarovs, a senior from Ithaca, N.Y., was the first NCAA Division III finisher and placed 23rd overall of 229 runners from all levels of competition at the Blue Ridge Open. He posted an eight-kilometer time of 25:19.51, marking the fastest 8K time of the season in the ODAC. It ranks as the third-fastest time in school history. His efforts helped GC to a fifth place of nine squads in the team standings.
  • Kaylee Kubisiak, Bridgewater, So.

    Kubisiak, a sophomore from Abbottstown, Pa., placed 44th out of 509 competitors at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Wisconsin. Her six-kilometer time of 22:49.15 is the second fastest in the ODAC this season. The event featured several of the top NCAA Division III programs in the country, including three in the top-10 of the USTFCCCA's national poll. Kubisiak's efforts helped BC to a 16th place showing in the team standings (456 pts.).
  • Alex Cooper, Emory & Henry, Fr.
    October 14, 2013
    Cooper, a freshman from Christiansburg, Va., ran a personal-best 28.16 at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte. The event, which featured mostly NCAA Division I and II programs, was run on an eight-kilometer course. Cooper placed 130th overall.
  • Leslie Sierra, Emory & Henry, Fr.

    Sierra, a freshman from Front Royal, Va., ran a personal-best 21:20 at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte. The event, which featured mostly NCAA Division I and II programs, was run on a five-kilometer course. Sierra placed 169th overall.

    Goncarovs, a senior from Ithaca, N.Y., picks up his second straight weekly honor as he won the NCAA Division III class at the Hagan Stone Classic over the weekend. He posted an eight-kilomter time of 25:35.78, marking the second-fastest time of his career and the seventh-fastest in school history. His efforts, along with that of second and third place finishing teammates Chad Norton and David Cason, sequentially, helped the Quakers to first in the team standings.
  • Rain McKemie, Randolph, Fr.
    October 07, 2013
    McKemie, a freshman from Rhoadesville, Va., led Randolph College to second place in the NCAA Division III team standings by placing seventh overall and third amongst D-III competitors at the Hagan Stone Classic. She posted a five-kilometer time of 20:44.47 in balmy North Carolina conditions.

    Goncarovs, a senior from Ithaca, N.Y., was the first NCAA Division III finisher to cross the line a the 198-runner Charlotte XC Invitational. The race was split into University (D-I) and College (D-II, III, NAIA) divisions, which Goncarovs placing fourth in the latter and 12th overall with a time of 25:34.6 over the eight-kilometer course. His time is a personal season-best and sixth fastest in school history.
  • Liz Wade, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr.

    Wade, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., placed fifth out of 126 runners at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University. She posted a time of 22:48.4 over the six-kilometer course, which was the second-best finisher amongst NCAA Division III participants. Her time marks a personal-best and the second fastest in program history, just nine seconds short of Shelby Bryceland's record, which she set in the same event in 2012.
  • Ryan Gehman, Eastern Mennonite, Junior
    September 23, 2013
    Gehman, a junior from Millersville, Pa., picks up his second weekly award of the season after a strong day at the inaugural Shenandoah Valley Invitational. Gehman finished the four-mile course second overall behind one unattached runner from Virginia Tech. Gehman's time of 21:03.70 was 10 seconds clear of third place and helped EMU to a fourth place team showing amongst the largely ODAC field.
  • Annelise Madison, Washington and Lee, Sr.
    September 23, 2013
    Madison, a senior from Roca, Neb., placed second at the Shenandoah Valley Invitational on Saturday in just her second meet of the season. She crossed the finish line in 19.90.90 over the five-kilometer course in Harrisonburg. Madison's finish was 27 seconds ahead of teammate Liz Spruill, who came in third at 19:46.60. The Generals took second overall in the event.
  • Anthony McBride, Lynchburg, Junior

    McBride, a junior from Meriden, Kans., placed 10th among NCAA Division II, III and NAIA competitors at the Furman College Invitational. He was the fourth NCAA Division III runner to cross the line, posting an eight-kilometer time of 25:34.92. Lynchburg placed third in the D-II/III/NAIA category, finishing behind Mount Olive College (D-II) and Emory University (D-III).
  • Naomi Tice, Lynchburg, Senior
    September 16, 2013
    Tice, a senior from Houston, Texas, placed 24th among NCAA Division II, III and NAIA competition at the Furman University Invitational. She posted a time of 24:06.08 over the six-kilometer course. Lynchburg placed sixth among the D-II/III/NAIA team standings, finishing behind Emory University in Division III.

    Gehman, a junior from Millersville, Pa., didn't take long to make an impact for the Royals as the transfer from Montreat College (NAIA) won the Generals XC Invitational in just his second race of the season. Gehman stopped the watches in 28:22.80 after completing the eight-kilometer course more than 17-seconds ahead of the second place finisher. His efforts helped EMU to a third place showing in the team standings.
  • Casey Mackintosh, Washington and Lee, Junior
    September 09, 2013
    Mackintosh, a junior from Marietta, Ga., picks her second weekly award in as many weeks. Mackintosh took first place for the second consecutive week, winning the Generals XC Invitational on Saturday. She crossed the finish line in 20:12.10 on the 5K course. Mackintosh finished 1:09.40 ahead of teammate Katy Bonaro, who came in second overall. Mackintosh helped the team take the top spot by 37 points.
  • Chad Norton, Guilford, Senior
    September 03, 2013
    Norton, a senior from Walled Lake, Mich., finished second overall and was the top ODAC finisher at the season-opening ODAC Preview Meet held at The Manor Course in Farmville, Va. Norton finished the eight-kilometer course in 25:59.00, leading the Quakers to a third-place team showing. Norton, whose time was the 12th-fastest in school history, was followed by senior teammates Andris Goncarovs (26:26.40) and David Cason (26:39.80) in third and fourth place, respectively.

    Mackintosh, a junior from Marietta, Ga., opened the 2013 season by winning the ODAC Preview Meet at the The Manor Course in Farmville, Va. Mackintosh posted a time of 22:50.10, which bested the second place runner by 47.80 seconds over the six-kilometer course. Her efforts helped lead the Generals to a second place finish in the team standings.
