2016 ODAC Basketball Tournament News

The Lynchburg College women's basketball team defeated Guilford College 62-55 Sunday to take home the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title, the first conference crown in school history. Sophomore forward Caroline Naumann earned tournament Most Outstanding Performer honors, racking up double-doubles in each of the three Hornet tournament wins.

The Randolph College men's basketball team held Roanoke College to 9-of-40 shooting from three-point range on the way an winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Quarterfinal, 74-62. The sixth-seeded WildCats held the third-seeded Maroons to 32.8% shooting from the floor and 35 points below their season average.

The Wasps earn two postseason victories for the first time since the 1993-94 when they reached the ODAC Tournament Championship game.

The #3 Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (19-7) stamped its ticket to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals with a thrilling 88-87 win over sixth-seeded Bridgewater College (14-12) Thursday evening at the Salem Civic Center. Sophomore guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) hit the game-winning layup with 2.5 seconds remaining to give the Wasps the victory.

Lynchburg forward Alex Graves and Roanoke mentor Page Moir secured two of the major honors as part of the 2016 ODAC Men's Basketball All-Conference awards. Graves was tabbed the Kurt Axe Memorial Player of the Year, while Moir earned Bob Johnson Coach of the Year laurels. Guilford forward Alston Thompson received ODAC Rookie of the Year honors, while fellow Quaker Zachary Houston was named the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete.

Eastern Mennonite forward Jess Rheinheimer collected two major honors from the ODAC head coaches for the second straight year, headlining the ODAC women's basketball awards as the ODAC Player of the Year and the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete. Guilford mentor Stephanie Flamini was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, while Emory & Henry guard Taylor Blevins picked up ODAC Rookie of the Year laurels.

Several teams made significant moves to secure or improve their position in the final ODAC women's basketball standings on Saturday afternoon, setting the stage for the upcoming ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Lynchburg College avoided a tied scenario with Guilford College thanks to its win on the final day, locking up the #1 seed in the conference postseason.

The ODAC tiebreaking procedures got a workout following the completion of the ODAC men's basketball regular season. Six ties dominated the league table, with all 12 tournament positions requiring some application of the league rules. Lynchburg College came out on top of Virginia Wesleyan College for the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament.
