Lynchburg Headlines ODAC Men's Lacrosse Bracket

FOREST, Va. --- A spreadsheet full of possible tiebreaker scenarios was ready to be employed to determine the seeding for the upcoming ODAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament. It turns out the easiest of steps broke all three stalemates that dot the seven-team bracket as two of Saturday's competitors -- University of Lynchburg and Hampden-Sydney College -- open as the top two seeds.

Lynchburg (8-1) scored a 14-2 triumph over Hampden-Sydney (8-1) under the lights at Shellenberger Field, supply the needed fuel to win the first step of the ODAC's tiebreaker procedures -- head-to-head results -- to secure top billing for the tournament. The Tigers still benefit from a strong bye situation as the second seed in the field, not having to play again until the semifinal round.

Tiebreakers were also needed to determine the quarterfinal hosts on Tuesday. Washington and Lee University and Randolph-Macon College finished at 7-2 in the league table. The Generals posted a 22-7 win over the Yellow Jackets earlier this month to earn W&L the third seed in the event. R-MC will play as the fourth seed. Roanoke College (6-3) sits in fifth position outright and will travel to Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals.

The final two seeds were also determined by head-to-head results. Bridgewater College and Shenandoah University finished with 5-4 records. The Eagles earned an 11-8 road win at SU to secure the sixth seed in the field. BC will host the seventh-seeded Hornets in the first round on Sunday in a rematch of last year's tournament opener. With Bridgewater and its Jopson Athletic Conference serving as the predetermined host for the ODAC Track & Field Championships on Sunday and Monday, the Eagles will host the first round men's lacrosse tournament game at 11:00 a.m. ET.

The 2023 tournament schedule features a small change to the game cadence. The "final four" format has been replaced by split location semifinals and the championship at the highest remaining seed two days later. This follows the trend at the NCAA Division III level of featuring at least one off day in between rounds of the tournament.
