Tornados Fall Twice to Conclude Meredith College Tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (2-4) dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the Meredith College Tournament on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina. Brevard fell to former USA South member Berea (2-2), 3-1, in the morning match-up. The Tornados then squared off against Bridgewater (3-2) in the afternoon tilt, also falling in four sets.

BEREA 3, BREVARD 1

Berea jumped ahead with a 25-16 first-set win, however, the Tornados equalized the match with a 25-22 response in the second set. The Mountaineers then won the third set 25-17 before completing the victory with a 25-12 result in set number four.

Junior Kaitlyn Pressley led the Brevard attack with 15 kills to go along with eight assists and six digs.  Sophomore setter Logan Priddy was the top Tornado distributor with 19 assists, while also defending effectively with 15 digs.  Junior defensive specialist Bailey Lance led BC with 21 digs.

Junior Makenna Parkins added eight kills to go along with five finishes by sophomore Ashley Hoxit.  Three Tornados - Pressley, Priddy, and Junior Caitlyn Hagarty - delivered with service aces

Berea was led by setter Idymel Ayala Rivera who registered 43 assists to set up three different Mountaineers with double-digit kill totals.  The service game was very productive for Berea as three players combined for 10 service aces.

BRIDGEWATER 3, BREVARD 1

Brevard won the first set over Bridgewater as a Hoxit kill during the service of senior Grace Pukas clinched the 27-25 win. Bridgewater however would rally to win the next three sets - 25-15, 25-20, 25-19 - to take the victory.

Pressley once again led the Tornado attack with 14 kills en route to a triple-double as the Brevard, North Carolina also recorded 13 digs and 11 assists.  Hoxit registered nine kills and seven digs, while Parkins delivered eight kills.

Priddy dished out 22 assists to go along with a game-high five service aces.  Lance led BC with 16 digs while serving for two aces herself. Hoxit added an ace as well to give Brevard a total of eight for the contest.

Bridgewater featured a balanced attack with 11 different players registering kills and eight different players recording at least one assist.

Brevard returns to action with a road trip to Greenville, South Carolina to take on Bob Jones University on Thursday. BC will then play in its home opener on Friday at 6 p.m. vs. Huntingdon in the first day of the Tornado Classic.
