2013 Volleyball Players of the Week

  • M.A. Boles, Washington and Lee, Sr., Outside Hitter

    Boles, a senior from Houston, Texas, put the stamp to her regular season by becoming the ODAC's all-time leader in career kills after helping the Generals to a 3-1 win over Emory & Henry in the final match of the regular season. The win over E&H also locked up the top seed for W&L in the upcoming ODAC tournament. Boles notched 16 kills and hit .277 to go with 17 digs and three blocks in the victory over the Wasps. Having set the W&L career kills record earlier in the season, Boles 16 winners versus E&H give her 1,666 for her career, surpassing the 1,656 posted by former Roanoke College standout Heather Cook '04. Boles currently leads the ODAC in kills (367), attackes (1,000) and total points won (429.5).
  • Meghan Meleski, Washington and Lee, Sr., Setter

    Meleski, a senior from Richmond, Va., helped lead Washington and Lee to a 4-0 week that included one conference win and a victory over previously national-ranked foe Christopher Newport. The Generals' setter dished out 129 assists on the week, including a career-high 55 in a 3-1 win over CNU, good for 13.75 per set. She also had 12 digs and three blocks in that match. She record 11 kills, taking advantage of limited hitting attempts towards a .455 attack percentage. She collected 39 total digs, including 15 in a 3-1 win over Mary Washington, and added nine total blocks with a high of five in a 3-0 triumph over Randolph. Her six kills in a 3-0 win against York (Pa.) set a new career-best. Meleski currently leads the ODAC in assists (918), assists per set (9.66) and service aces (50).
  • Megann Grimes, Bridgewater, Jr., Middle Hitter

    Grimes, a junior from Midland, Va., picks up her second weekly award after helping lead Bridgewate to a 3-0 week, including a pair of ODAC wins over Shenandoah (3-0) and Washington and Lee (3-0). Grimes hit .643 on the week with 28 kills against just one error to go with 11 blocks and five digs from her middle position. She notched 12 kills and six blocks against Shenandoah, and then followed that with 11 winners and five blocks against the Generals. Grimes currently leads the ODAC in blocks solos (27) and total blocks (97), is second in attack percentage (.305) and third in total kills (271).
  • Lindsay Kallam, Bridgewater, Sr., Setter

    Kallam, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., helped lead the Eagles to a 2-2 week that included a 3-0 win at Virginia Wesleyan and a 3-2 triumph at Salisbury University. BC's setter handed out 108 assists over four matches, including 40 in the Eagles win over the Sea Gulls. She also had four kills, nine digs and two blocks in that match. Against VWC, she passed out 24 assists with nine more digs and hit .571 with four kills. For the week, Kallam hit .400 (9-1-20) with 30 total digs and four blocks. She is currently second in the ODAC with 664 assists and third at 8.0 assists per game.
  • Tori Puryear, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Middle Hitter

    Puryear, a senior from Madison, Va., spearheaded the Yellow Jackets effort in defeating 24th-ranked Christopher Newport, 3-1. The Captains have eliminated R-MC from two of the past three NCAA tournaments, but the squads have split their last four meetings with CNU holding a 15-7 edge in the all-time series. Puryear was the catalyst behind R-MC's latest win against CNU, this one coming at home. Puryear hit .458 for the match with 12 kills and just one error in 24 attacks. She notched five total blocks and two digs defensively while accounting for a team-high 14.5 points in the match. Puryear currently leads the ODAC in block assists (60), total blocks (71) and blocks per game (1.11).
  • Megann Grimes, Bridgewater, Jr., Middle Hitter

    Grimes, a junior from Midland, Va., helped the Eagles to a 3-2 week that included a 3-1 showing at the Gallaudet University Worthington Classic. Grimes had four matches of nine or more kills, including 13 each in a pair of 3-2 wins over Gallaudet and Mary Washington. She hit .417 against UMW, adding a eight blocks and three digs in the Eagles' win. BC's middle hitter hit .337 for the week and notched 18 total blocks, including four solo efforts.

    Meleski, a senior from Richmond, Va., picks up her second weekly award after leading the Generals to a 3-1 week. Meleski handed out 142 assists on the week, but also collected 48 kills, 12 aces, 10 kills and eight blocks while hitting .364. In a 3-1 win over Lynchburg, Meleski recorded 42 assists to gow tih 12 digs, four blocks and three aces. She notched a half-dozen service winners in a 3-2 win over Marietta College, in addition to five kills, 14 digs and 37 assists against the Pioneers. Meleski currently leads the ODAC in assists (470), assists per set (9.40) and service aces (32).

    Meleski, a senior from Richmond, Va., helped lead Washington and Lee to a 3-0 week that included ODAC wins over Randolph-Macon and Virginia Wesleyan. The Generals' setter notched 120 assists on the week, averaging 12.0 per set over the three matches and helping W&L to a .270 team hitting percentage. She notched 43 helpers with 14 digs, four blocks and three aces in a 3-0 win over R-MC. She backed that up with 42 assists, six digs and two aces in a 3-0 triumph against Virginia Wesleyan. She capped her week with four kills, 35 assists, 12 digs and two blocks in a 3-0 victory over Averett. Meleski currently leads the ODAC with 328 assists and a 9.94 per set average.
  • Tristen Pennington, Emory & Henry, Fr., Outside Hitter

    Pennington, a freshamn from Kingsport, Tenn., has put together a pair of strong weeks in her debut season to help lead Emory & Henry to an ODAC-best 5-1 record. In a 4-1 showing this week, Pennington collected 70 total kills and averaged 3.68 per set as she hit .244 overall and accounted for 78 points won of the Wasps. She smacked double-figure winners in all five matches, including a weekly high of 19 to go with 14 digs in a 3-1 win over Methodist. Pennington registered 65 total digs, including 22 against Virginia Intermont. She added seven total aces to her stat line. Pennington is currently #1 in the ODAC in kills per set (3.68).
  • Katie Long, Bridgewater, Sr., Outside Hitter

    Long, a senior from Floyd, Va., led the Eagles to a 4-0 weekend at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College. Long collected an ODAC weekly-high 71 kills and registered 4.18 kills per set while hitting .251, earning her all-tournament team accolades. Long began the season with 22 kills, nine digs and four blocks in the Eagles 3-2 victory over Penn St.-Altoona. She backed that up with 17 winners in BC's second 3-2 win on Friday, this one over host Gettysburg College. On Saturday, Long notched 12 kills and three digs in a 3-0 whitewashing of Washington College. She capped her performance with 20 kills, two digs and a block in a 3-1 win over Penn St.-Harrisburg. Long current leads the early ODAC charts in kills and kills per set.
