Parker Moore’s Late Winner Lifts Brevard Over Randolph in Thriller, 19-18

BREVARD, N.C. - Senior attacker Parker Moore scored a game-winning free-position shot with 1:31 left to play as the Brevard College women's lacrosse team (1-0) pulled out a thrilling 19-18 triumph over Randolph College (0-1) in BC's season-opener on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Moore, a senior from Raleigh, North Carolina, put away a free-position attempt that gave BC a one-goal lead late that it would not relinquish, as the Brevard defense held strong to keep the WildCats off the board in the final minute of action in a high-scoring affair.

Moore led all players with eight goals to go alongside three assists. The effort marked a top-five performance in BC women's lacrosse history for single-game goals, as the senior's effort was one goal away from tying the program single-game record.

Autumn Kraemer, a fellow senior attacker, logged five goals and one assist for BC, while Xan Hill (two goals) and Paige Kneubuhler (two goals, one assist) impressed in their collegiate debuts. Sophomore midfielder Emily Denaga scored once with two assists, while Savannah Colliver also found the scoresheet and freshman Nicole Volk distributed an assist. Denaga led all players with 15 draw controls won, as the Tornados claimed 25 DC wins to Randolph's 16 as a team. Starting goalkeeper Lex MacLauchlin (1-0) made 13 saves for the Tornados.

Randolph's Beverly Alcock (six goals), Sophia Cirone (five goals) and Logan Warren (four goals) paced Randolph's offense. The WildCats slightly outshot BC 40-38, while Randolph grabbed 28 ground balls to the Tornados' 18. The visitors converted 8-of-15 free-position shots, while Brevard was successful on 5-of-12.

The Tornados held an early lead after the first period as Brevard outpaced Randolph 7-4. However, the WildCats used an eight-goal second quarter to tie things up, 12-12 at halftime. The visitors scored five goals in the third period to take their first leads of the contest, holding a 17-15 edge as the game shifted to the final period of play.

Randolph opened up the scoring with 13 minutes left to play, but after its 18th goal of the afternoon the WildCats were held scoreless by BC's defense. The Tornados answered the pressure, rattling off four-consecutive goals that included Moore's late winner, as Brevard's defense stifled Randolph down the stretch to give BC its season-opening 19-18 victory.

The Tornados are back in action in a doubleheader with the men's team next Friday, February 24 as Brevard faces Spalding University. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
