  • SU's Morse Earns Promotion to Following First Minor League Appearance

    It took just one appearance for Phil Morse '16 to earn the first promotion of his professional baseball career with the Washington Nationals organization. Barely 24 hours after striking out all five batters he faced versus the Gulf Coast League Astros on Saturday, Morse earned a promotion to the Auburn (N.Y.) Doubledays of the Class A NY-Penn League Sunday afternoon.
  • Randolph-Macon's Lodge and Walsh All-Americans Two Times Over

    Randolph-Macon College infielder Travis Lodge and starting pitcher James Walsh lead a list of ODAC award winners for the second and third times this season as the duo earn First Team All-American honors from both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com. Three others garnered All-America recognition from one of the two national outlets.

    Senior James Walsh allowed one run in six innings and junior Stuart Brown delivered a pair of sacrifice flies as second-ranked and second-seeded Randolph-Macon fell 4-3 to top-seeded La Roche in the Championship Game of the NCAA Tournament's Mideast Regional Sunday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.

    Top-seeded Emory University punched its ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the third straight year with a 15-2 victory over third-seeded Shenandoah in the NCAA South Regional Sunday afternoon.

    Emory advanced to the NCAA South Region Championship game with a 14-7 victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon. Shenandoah (34-11) dominated the first two innings, jumping out to a 6-0 lead over the Eagles (33-10), but everything changed following a 45-minute weather delay. Emory scored seven runs in the third, knocking out Hornets starter Colin Morse, before adding three in the fourth and one in the fifth to pull away from SU.
  • Hornets Recover to Defeat B-SC, Head to Regional Championship Game

    It was déjà vu all over again. Mere hours after giving up a six-run lead in its winner's bracket championship game versus Emory, Shenandoah turned the same trick against Birmingham-Southern Saturday night. Shenandoah (35-11) advanced to Sunday's NCAA South Regional Championship against Emory by virtue of a 10-8 win over B-SC.
  • R-MC Falls to La Roche in 12 Innings in NCAA Regional

    Junior Nic Phelps fanned eight in eight innings and sophomore Rick Spiers had two hits, including a home run, as second-ranked and second-seeded Randolph-Macon dropped a 7-2 decision in 12 innings to top-seeded La Roche Saturday evening in the Mideast Regional of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

    Shenandoah received a second straight strong pitching performance as the Hornets downed No. 5/6 Birmingham-Southern 6-2 Thursday evening at the NCAA South Regional. Darrell Thompson (6-2) tossed the first 7 2/3 innings, retiring 14 straight batters at one point, before turning it over to Ryan Mossman for the final four outs.
  • Spiers Goes the Distance in R-MC's NCAA Regional Win Over Wooster

    Rick Spiers pitched his first nine-inning complete game of the season and Jordan Schmeer threw out the potential tying run at the plate to end the game as Randolph-Macon edged Wooster, 2-1, Thursday evening to remain undefeated in the Mideast Regional of the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament at Ross Memorial Park.

    James Walsh threw a three-hit shutout with a career-high 15 strikeouts as second-ranked and second-seeded Randolph-Macon blanked seventh-seeded St. Joseph's (L.I.) 8-0 Wednesday evening in the first round of the Mideast Regional of the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament at Ross Memorial Park.
  • Randolph-Macon, Shenandoah Selected to NCAA Baseball Tournament Field

    Randolph-Macon College, winner of the ODAC Tournament, will have company in the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament as Shenandoah University joins the Yellow Jackets on the national Stage. The Hornets join R-MC, the owner of the ODAC's automatic entry, picked up an at-large bid into one of eight regionals set to be played across the country.
  • Randolph-Macon Lifts Sixth ODAC Baseball Tournament Trophy

    Randolph-Macon College withstood a comeback effort from Hampden-Sydney College in the top of the ninth inning on Sunday to lock up the program's sixth overall ODAC baseball trophy at Liberty Baseball Stadium in Lynchburg, Va. The win awards the Yellow Jackets the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.
  • R-MC's Lodge and Walsh Headline All-ODAC Baseball Awards

    Randolph-Macon College took home two major honors as part of the All-ODAC Baseball awards, with third baseman Travis Lodge garnering ODAC Player of the Year accolades and lefty James Walsh securing ODAC Pitcher of the Year laurels. Washington and Lee University's Lucas Jones earned ODAC Coach of the Year recognition, while Generals' pitcher Tom Concklin received the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award. Hampden-Sydney College outfielder Brian Goodwyn was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year.
  • First Day of ODAC Baseball Moved to Liberty University

    Four days of competition in the ODAC Baseball Tournament is slated to begin on Thursday, April 28. To ensure that takes place with unfavorable weather probable in the Lynchburg area, the first day of the tournament will be moved to Liberty Baseball Stadium on the campus of Liberty University. The remaining three days of competition will return to Lynchburg City Stadium beginning on Friday.

    The ODAC baseball standings were packed heading into the final day, with several possibilities for ties existing for seeds in the conference postseason. Results took care of all but one of those scenarios on Saturday, with Shenandoah University pulling ahead to secure the top seed in next week's ODAC Baseball Tournament.

  • Shenandoah Tabbed Atop ODAC Baseball Preseason Poll

    Reigning ODAC champion Shenandoah University was picked as the conference favorite heading into the 2016 campaign as the Hornets received five first place and 94 total points to lead the ODAC Baseball Preseason Poll. Randolph-Macon College picked up four top nods and 90 overall tallies to rank second, while Virginia Wesleyan College kept the top-three tightly packed with 88 points and the remaining two first place votes from the league's head coaches.
