  • Benne earns NSCAA South Region Coach of the Year

    The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) voted women’s soccer coach Phil Benne the 2007 South Region Coach of the Year. This is the first time Benne has been awarded this prestigious honor. He will be in the running for national coach of the year.
  • W&L’s Van Devender, RC’s Benne Collect Top W. Soccer Honors

    The annual All-ODAC Women’s Soccer voting has ended and this year’s top awards have been set. Washington & Lee University’s Anne Van Devender collected the league’s Player of the Year award and Roanoke College’s Phil Benne was tabbed as the ODAC Coach of the Year. Lynchburg College’s Betsy Kwiatkowski earned ODAC Rookie of the Year honors, and the Hornets’ Lauren Askey received her second straight ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete award following a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
  • ODAC Women’s Soccer Championship Set

    The ODAC Women’s Soccer Tournament experience the conference’s first postseason upset on Saturday evening as fourth-seeded Lynchburg College played even with Virginia Wesleyan College through two overtimes periods before defeating the Marlins 3-1 on penalty kicks. In the other semifinal, Roanoke College sandwiched two second half goals around one Washington & Lee University tally to defeat the Generals, 2-1.
  • ODAC Women’s Soccer Tournament Pairings Set

    Virginia Wesleyan College enters the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament as the top seed after finishing the conference regular season with a league-best record of 10-0-1. Roanoke College occupies the second seed while Washington & Lee University sits in the third spot. Lynchburg College maintains the final home-field slot as the fourth seed.
  • VWC Nudges Past W&L in Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll

    Defending league champion Virginia Wesleyan College received seven first place votes on the way to 137 overall tallies as the Marlins were picked as narrow favorites over Washington & Lee University in the 2007 ODAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll. The Generals collected the remaining five first place nods and 133 votes all together. Third place in the poll is separated by only six votes amongst four schools. Eastern Mennonite University and Lynchburg College each garnered 106 votes from the league’s coaches with Guilford College scoring 102 tallies and Roanoke College adding another 100 votes to the competition.
  • Hollins Names Carrie Moore O’Keeffe New Soccer Coach

    Hollins University and Athletic Director Lynda Calkins are pleased to announce the hiring of Carrie O’Keeffe as head soccer coach. O’Keeffe will begin immediately, taking over the program after the departure of head coach Kim Jones.
