2012-13 ODAC Swimmers of the Week

  • Payton Shirey, Emory & Henry, Freshman

    Shirey, a freshman from Seaford, Del., picks up her second weekly award of the season as she rattled off three individual event victories and helped the Wasps to a relay win as Emory & Henry won a quad meet against Warren Wilson, Lagrange and Greensboro. Shirey claimed top prize in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.00, and followed that with a 56.74 time to win the 100-yard freestyle. Her third win came in the 50-yard butterfly via a time of 27.84. Shirey swam the lead leg of the E&H's 200-yard freestyle relay team that chimed in at 1:47.02. The Wasps finish the regular season with a 9-1 overall dual meet record and a 5-1 mark against ODAC teams.
  • Delaney Rolfe, Washington and Lee, Senior

    Rolfe, a senior from Dallas, Texas, led the Generals to a pair of victories in a double-duel with Catholic and Marymount. W&L topped CUA, 154-101, and Marymount, 156-101. Rolfe claimed a pair of first place finishes, including a win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.78. She tacked on a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.37. Rolfe also swam the third leg of W&L's 400-yard freestyle relay team, which swam the event as an exhibition. The group posted a time of 3:49.37, which would have topped Catholic in the official standings.
  • Carrie Crowther, Bridgewater, Jr.

    Crowther, a junior from Burgess, Va., helped guide the Eagles to a 1-1 showing in their first meets of 2013. On Friday evening, Crowther won two individual events and swam the anchor leg of Bridgewater's victorious 200-yard medley relay squad in a 166-36 dual-meet win over Hollins. She topped the field in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.36 and corralled the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.65 seconds. On Saturday at Washington and Lee, Crowther started the day with a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.88 seconds. She followed up with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 55.98 seconds to post just the second individual event victory ever for Bridgewater against the Generals. Finally, Crowther swam the third leg on Bridgewater's runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay, which posted a time of 3:51.82.
  • Dani Horne, Greensboro, Senior
    December 17, 2012
    Horne, a senior from Alexandria, Va., put together a pair of strong performances over the two weeks including five individual event victories and one more in a relay win. In a 130-49 duel meet win over Guilford, Horne won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:06.58, and added the first place showing in the 1000-yard freestyle in 13:00.06. She and her Pride teammates claimed the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:56.28. At LaGrange, Horne won the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard backstroke.
  • Emma Swabb, Washington and Lee, Freshman

    Swabb, a freshman from Erie, Pa., helped the Generals claim the 2012 Yellow Jacket Invitational title as she was apart of six Washington and Lee event victories, including a trio of individual first place finishes. She also helped reset three W&L school records. Swabb won the 400-yard individual medley in a school-record time of 4:42.06. Her remaining individual wins came in the 200-yard IM (2:13.16) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.63). Swabb swam legs of three winning relay teams, two of which set new school marks. The Generals won the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:55.40), and then stamped new entries in the W&L books with times of 1:40.53 and 4:03.53 in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay, respectively. The times established new ODAC season-best marks.

    Shirey, a freshman from Seaford, Del., helped the Wasps to a 96-83 triumph over NCAA Division II institution King College on Friday. She won a pair of individual events and was a part of a winning relay as Emory & Henry improved to 5-0 in duel-meet competitions. Shirey set a school-record in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 28.07 seconds. She went on to win the 100-meter freestyle in 1:05.12. She then swam a leg of the winning 200-meter freestyle relay team that broke the 2:00-barrier for the first time in school history with a 1:59.68 showing.
  • Sarah Schaffer, Washington and Lee, Fr.

    Schaffer, a freshman from Wheaton, Ill., was a part of three winning events and a trio of pool records in the Generals 114-78 away win over Sweet Briar this past week. Schaffer and her Washington and Lee teammates touched out in 2:06.61 in the in the 200-meter medley relay (5.92 second margin of victory) to set one pool record. They turned the trick again in the 400-meter medley relay with a time of 4:09.28, good enough to win the event by 17.03 seconds. Schaffer then put her own name on the Prothro Natatorium record board as she secured a win the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2:12.73, which won the event by 10.53 seconds over teammate Kate Feeser.
  • Taylor Guardalabene, Emory & Henry, Freshman

    Guardalabene, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., helped the Wasps move to 2-0 in dual meets with three individual event wins and the anchor leg of a relay victory in Emory & Henry's 156-99 win over Hollins. Guardalabene, whose wins also set school records, touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley, and then helped the Wasps to a win in the 400-yard medley relay. Her time of 2:05.98 won the 200-free by 46.34 seconds, while her margin of victory in the 100-fly was just 2.84 seconds after tapping out in 1:04.28. Guardalabene capped her individual showing with a 2:21.84 showing in the 200-IM, winning by 8.72 seconds. E&H recorded a 4:33.60 time in the 400-medley relay, winning by 1:08.28.
  • Lauren Frizzell, Emory & Henry, Freshman

    Frizzell, a freshman from Blacksburg, Va., led Emory & Henry to a 115-56 win over Ferrum College Friday evening at the E&H Aquatics Center. E&H, in its first year with a full varsity program, won 11 races and set school records with each victory. Frizzell was responsible for three of the wins as she touched the wall first in the 200-meter (2:15.73), 400-meter (4:42.35) and 800-meter (10:07.22) events.
  • Izzy Brassfield, Washington and Lee, Senior

    Brassfield, a senior from Greensboro, N.C., recorded five first-place finishes while competing in both relays and individual events over the weekend. In a 133-129 dual meet victory against Mary Washington, Brassfield took top prize in the in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 25.41 and 55.41, respectively. She also participating in the winning 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.39. She also competed in several events at the ODAC Relays, helping her squad to first place showings in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:55.90 and the 200-yard free relay in 1:43.90.
  • Stephanie Foster, Washington and Lee, Fr.

    Foster, a freshman from Columbia, Md., kicked her collegiate swimming career with a splash as she helped Washington and Lee to a 1-1 showing in a tri-meet with Centre College and DePauw University. Foster recorded two event wins with times of 1:01.87 in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:14.30 in the 200-yard backstroke. She also was a member of the 200-yard medley relay that placed second in a time of 1:53.76.
