2014 Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

  • Dana Lee, Washington and Lee, Fr., Jumps/Sprints

    Lee, a freshman from Nasville, Tenn., competed in four events at the Hopkins Loyola Invitational and took over the ODAC's top spot on the seasonal charts in two events. Lee made plenty of noise with a leap of 5.64 meters (18' 6.0") to win the long jump and tie for eighth in NCAA Division III. It also bettered her own ODAC season-best mark and set new W&L and meet records in the process. She went on to finish second in the triple jump at 10.91 meters (35' 9.5") and eighth in both the 100 meter (12.82 sec.) and 200-meter (26.11 sec.) dashes. Her time in the 200m is the best in the ODAC this season.
  • Zander Tallman, Washington and Lee, Sr., Springs/Mid-Distance

    Tallman, a senior from Grand Blanc, Mich., competed in four events at the Hopkins Loyola Invitational and snapped a pair of Washington and Lee records along the way. His first mark came in his first attempt at the 800-meter run this season as he set a new ODAC best time and broke a 35-year old Generals' record with a time of 1:52.68. It also ranks ninth in the country. Tallman competed in one individual event, posting a time of 10.84 seconds in the 100-meter dash. That ranks third in the ODAC this season. He went on to compete in both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays, setting another W&L record in the former. He and his teammates crossed the line in an ODAC-leading time of 41.61 seconds, which is eighth in the NCAA Division III. The Generals' 4x400-meter team came in at 3:19.37, second in the ODAC only to their own previous-best time of 3:19.02.
  • Jaclyn Mohlmann, Shenandoah, Jr., Heptathlon

    Mohlmann, a junior from Annandale, Va., competed in the 400-meter hurdles and the heptathlon at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational. She placed third in the heptathlon with 4,323 points in a field dominated by non-Division III competitors. She moved into the top-five in several events thru the competition, including the top spot in the 100-meter hurldes with a time of 15.53 seconds. On the ODAC charts, she's now tied for second in the high jump (4' 11.75"), tied for fourth in the long jump (16' 6.0") and fifth in the 800-meter run (2:24.34) She's also fourth in the 400-meter hurldes after placing third at Liberty in 1:09.95.
  • Ben Martindell, Bridgewater, Sr., Hurdles

    Martindell, a senior from Nokesville, Va., put together a pair of strong performances in the hurdles at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational. He won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.12 seconds, taking over the top spot in the ODAC. That time also ranks 27th in NCAA Division III. He followed that by placing fourth in the 400-meter hurldes in 56.83 seconds. That time sits fourth on the conference's seasonal list.
  • Dana Lee, Washington and Lee, Fr., Jumps/Sprints

    Lee, a freshman from Nashville, Tenn., competed in four events and won twice at the Commonwealth Duals over the weekend. Lee took over the top spot on the ODAC seasonal lists in the long jump by winning the event with a leap of 5.30 meters (17' 11.5"). She also won the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.90 seconds, which ranks fifth in the league. Lee capped her individual showing in the triple jump by finishing second at 10.93 meters (35' 10.5"), which is good for third in the ODAC. Lee also ran a leg of the Generals' 4x100-meter relay team which placed third at the Duals in 50.96 seconds.
  • Greg Wilson, Lynchburg, Sr., Throws

    Wilson, a senior from Bourne, Va., had a big day in the throwing areas at the Jopson Invitational hosted by Bridgewater College. Wilson all three throwing events in which he competed, taking over the top spot in the ODAC season rankings in two of them. He won the discus with a throw of 43.00 meters (141' 1.0"), which is the best in the conference by nearly three feet. His toss of 54.47 meters (178' 8.0") in the hammer throw won the event and is tops in the ODAC by more than 17 feet. He also won the shot put at the Jopson Invitational with a heave of 14.37 meters (47' 1.75"), which is second in the league to his own earlier throw at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational earlier this season.
  • Kristen Trice, Bridgewater, So.

    Trice, a sophomore from Glen Allen, Va., put together a strong showing at the season-opening Ronaoke Invitational. Trice competed in three jumping events, winning twice while also helping BC to a third-place relay showing. Trice sits atop the conference lists in the high jump after clearing 1.57 meters (5' 1.75") to win the event. She went on to also claim top prize in the long jump at 5.24 meters (17' 2.5"). She placed second in the triple jump at 10.98 meters (36' 0.25"), and then helped her teammates to a third place showing in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 52.08 seconds. Her leap in the long jump ranks third all-time at Bridgewater.
  • Zander Tallman, Washington and Lee, Sr.

    Tallman, a senior from Grand Blanc, Mich., started the outdoor season on the right foot with a pair of individual event wins, a relay victory and a second place finish in a relay at the season-opening W&L Carnival. Tallman owns the top times in the ODAC thru the first weekend with marks of 21.86 seconds in the 200-meter dash and 47.92 seconds in the 400-meter dash. His 400-dash time is tops in NCAA Division III thus while, while his 200-dash time ranks sixth. Tallman also helped W&L to a win in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 41.73 seconds, the second-best time in the country. He and his Generals' teammates finished second in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:19.02.
