  • ODAC Names Jopson, Berkley Winners
    June 10, 2011
    Three student-athletes earned the conference's top awards in a vote of the ODAC Board of Directors at the annual league meetings earlier this week. W&L's Greg Kurkis was recognized as the Doc Jopson Award winner. BC's Christina Rhodes and W&L's Emmy Mathews will share the Marge Berkely Award., marking the first tie in Berkely Award history.
  • Rusiewicz to Head Quakers Football

    Former Ursinus College associate head football coach and defensive coordinator, Chris Rusiewicz, was announced as Guilford College's 22nd football coach in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. Rusiewicz was named the AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year for NCAA Division III this past season, his ninth on the sidelines at Ursinus.
  • Beiler Highlights ODAC All-Region Honors

    BC's Tyler Beiler learned of another major honor on Thursday following the announcement of the 2010 D3football.com All-Region Teams. The Eagles' receiver was tabbed the South Region Player of the Year, highlighting a contingent of 13 student-athletes from the ODAC schools honored. The conference placed five players on the first team.
  • Beiler Named First Winner of Lanier Award

    BC's Tyler Beiler became the first ever winner of the Willie Lanier Award, edging out H-SC's Trevor Ikwild and E&H's Caleb Jennings for the state's top college division honor. The award is given by the Touchdown Club of Richmond in coordination with the Richmond Times-Dispatch. In all, ODAC players swept all five college division honors bestowed by the Club.
  • Saluting the Fall Scholar-Athletes

    Seven student-athletes from Old Dominion Athletic Conference member schools earned a 2010 ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete Award during the fall athletic schedule. Farm Bureau Insurance is the proud presenter of each award for the ODAC's 22 sponsored sports.
  • Beiler, Ikwild Lead ODAC Football Awards

    BC's Tyler Beiler and H-SC's Trevor Ikwild headline the 2010 ODAC Football All-Conference Teams as the offensive and defensive players of the year. W&L mentor Frank Miriello was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, and was joined by fellow General Greg Kurkis as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete. CUA's Mike Pitsenberger was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year.
  • HSC Falls to Montclair State

    Despite falling behind 16-0 to #21 Montclair State, #23 Hampden-Sydney College made a fourth quarter comeback, coming within two but ultimately fell 16-14 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Tournament. The Tigers end their season at 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the ODAC while the Red Hawks advance to 10-1 and will face top-seeded Wesley next Saturday
  • WLU Falls to Thomas More in First Round

    Thomas More racked up 523 yards of total offense, including rushing for 432 yards, in defeating Washington and Lee, 42-14, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III football playoffs. The Generals finish their season with an 8-3 overall record. TMC moves on to the second round against Mary Hardin-Baylor.

    The ODAC football season came to a close with some outstanding performances. Included in that group was a five touchdown day from BC quarterback, Hagan Driskell (pictured). He fired four TD passes and ran in for one. The season will continue for both W&L and H-SC as both will play in the NCAA Tournament. Read on for more details.
  • ODAC Football Report: Week 10

    With one week left the ODAC season, the 2010 conference title has already been awarded. Washington and Lee topped Hampden-Sydney, 31-26, to complete a 6-0 league record and earn the ODAC's automatic qualifier into the NCAA tournament. Also winning were Bridgewater behind a record day by Tyler Beiler (pictured) and Catholic.
  • Generals Claim ODAC Championship

    The Washington and Lee defense forced five turnovers and sacked the quarterback five times in posting a 38-27 victory over Hampden-Sydney to win the ODAC football championship on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field. The Generals (7-2, 6-0) won their sixth-straight game en route to finishing the season with a perfect ODAC record for the first time in program history.

    Athletes continued to perform at a high level as the ODAC fall seasons wind down and postseason tournaments begin. This weeks honorees include (picture left-right, top-bottom): Kelly Tran (W&L), Mat Hennick (GC), Brittany Klippstein (LC), John Robert Plyler (HSC), Jocelyn Cassada (W&L), Jake Pelton (W&L) and Kala Guy (VWC).
  • ODAC Football Report: Week 9

    Two teams remain undefeated going into the final weeks of the ODAC football season. H-SC and W&L both remain unbeaten in league play after wins over the weekend. BC also claimed victory. But it was the Generals that made the most noise as they put their marks on several ODAC records including most rushing yards in a game with 496 in their win over Catholic.

    Football continued through its eighth week of action with six ODAC teams in action over the weekend. Powered by 204 yards from Harrison Hudson (pictured), W&L ran for more than 400 yards for the fourth straight game in its win over BC. CUA earned its first ODAC win at E&H. R-MC put up 59 points against GC in its return to the winner's circle.

    It was a weekend of high scoring and changes at the top of the conference thru week 7 of ODAC football. W&L defeated R-MC 42-28, H-SC topped E&H 48-10, and BC beat GC 56-27. Darrin McKenzie (pictured) led the Eagles' with 219 yards on the ground and a pair of scores. His rushing effort was the most for BC since the 2000 campaign.

    Two teams remain undefeated following the sixth week of gridiron action. Hampden-Sydney, Randolph-Macon and Washington and Lee are all 2-0 in ODAC play, with H-SC and R-MC 6-0 overall. Washington and Lee had a pair of rushers go over the 100-yard mark, include Brett Murray (pictured). The Generals ran for 425 yards as a team.

    Football moved into its fifth week of action this past week and opened conference play with a trio of contests. R-MC defeated E&H in a battle of two undefeated teams, W&L put up 55 points and caused five turnovers in its win at GC, and H-SC staved off CUA to remain unbeaten through five games. BC played early, defeating Southern Virginia on Thursday in Salem.
  • Jennings Run Chosen as Play of the Week

    Emory & Henry running back Caleb Jennings ran for a 45-yard touchdown against Methodist on Saturday, but he did so by eluding several defenders, hurdling another and bouncing off one more as he covered roughly 135 yards of territory on the play. D3football.com tabbed Jennings' run as its NCAA Division III "Play of the Week."

    The fourth week of football saw the ODAC pick up four more wins in six games. ODAC teams have gone 18-7 during the non-conference portion of the season with three more to be played at various points throughout the schedule. E&H, H-SC and R-MC all sit at 4-0. BC is 3-0 with one more non-conference game set for Thursday versus Southern Virginia in Salem, Va.

    By Mark Berman, Roanoke Times --- Frank Miriello will surpass his late mentor and friend Gary Fallon as the winningest coach at Washington and Lee with a victory Saturday. The Generals face Averett University in Lexington at 1:00 p.m. at Wilson Field.

    Three ODAC schools remained undefeated through the third week of gridiron action. E&H, H-SC and R-MC all have handled their non-conference schedules without a blemish, as has BC, but the Eagles were idle this weekend (bye). R-MC quarterback Austin Faulkner fired five touchdowns and E&H defensive back, Daniel Woods, picked off a pair of passes.

    ODAC football teams went 6-1 over the weekend with standout performances stemming from each game. CUA quarterback, Greg Cordivari, led the Cardinals to a 42-32 win over Apprentice with 304 yards and five TD's passing. BC linebacker, Scottie Littles (pictured), returned an interception 35 yards for the deciding score in the Eagles 38-31 win over Shenandoah.

    ODAC football got off on the right foot in 2010 with five wins over the weekend. Bridgewater, Catholic, Emory & Henry, Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon all trounced non-conference opponents. E&H's Caleb Jennings earned the first Offensive Player of the Week award, while BC's Dominic Jeter secured Defensive Player of the Week honors.

  • Hampden-Sydney Tops ODAC Football Poll

    Hampden-Sydney secured the top slot in the annual ODAC Football Preseason Poll, earning 44 total points that included three first place votes from the league’s coaches. Bridgewater received a pair of top votes on the way to 39 points, and Emory & Henry picked up 36 tallies and one first place nod. Randolph-Macon (29 points) received the remaining first place vote.
  • ODAC Announces 2010 Football Media Day

    The 2010-11 athletic seasons are fast approaching with the ODAC ready to kick-off the new campaign on the gridiron. The season will begin with the league’s annual football media day. Replacing the in-person event that had been hosted in Salem, Va., will be a series of conference call sessions with each school’s head coach and a selected player available to media.
