The Short Story: Efosa U-Edosomwan recorded his 1,000th career point and the Roanoke men's basketball team pulled away in the second half for an 86-53 win over Averett on Saturday afternoon at the Bast Center Gym.   

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Roanoke opened the game with the first six points and 11 of the first 13 with U-Edosomwan scoring nine of those points including his 1,00th career point. The maroons would keep a nine-point lead until 15:05 with the Cougars beginning to chip away, pulling within three at 10:53, 19-16. A 6-2 run by the maroons gave them a 25-18 lead that lead into the second media timeout of the half.
  • The maroons extended their lead to 13 by the 4:00 minute mark, 35-22. A layup by with 2:15 put the lead up to 15 before the Cougars brought it withing singles Joshua McClary digits with a pair of free throws with 22 seconds before the half, 37-28.
  • The second half was all Maroons as a jumper by Kasey Draper extended the Maroons lead to 15 with 14:45 left in the game and a pair of free throws by Joshua Morse put Roanoke ahead by 21 with 13:00 left. Justin Kuthan gave the Maroons a 30 point lead with just 7:39 remaining. A pair of free throws by Trent Dawson at 4:53 gave the Roanoke its biggest lead at 83-47.
  • The Maroons kept the Cougars at bay the rest of the way for the 86-53 ODAC win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Draper had a team-high 18 points to lead one of four Maroons in double-figures. U-Edosomwan (16), Kuthan (12), and McClary (10) also reached two digit points.
  • As a team, Roanoke led the Cougars in total rebounds (39-22), assists (10-2), bench points (36-19), points in the paint (40-22) and fast break points (11-0).
