The Lead: Roanoke College played host to Shenandoah in the opening game of the annual "Maroon Madness" in the Cregger Center on Wednesday night. The Maroons looked to sweep the season series against the Hornets when they took the court in front of a packed house. Leading by two with 10-minutes left in the opening frame, Roanoke closed out half on a 25-13 run to take the lead into the break. The second half was all Roanoke as the Maroons cruised to the 97-57, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

How it Happened:

  • The lead went back and forth to start the game with the visitors from Winchester enjoying an 11-5 advantage at the 16:00 minute mark. A Tripp Greene jumper helped to spark an 8-2 surge to tie the game at 13-13.
  • Justin Kuthan completed a three-point play to put the Maroons back in front and added to the lead with a layup off a feed from Nick Price. With 2:00 to play in the first 20-minutes, Efosa U-Edosomwan scored and Price hit a jump shot to push the RC advantage to 13. Shenandoah had a chance to cut into the lead but after a miss, Price found Zach Rosenthal for a buzzer-beating 3-ball as Roanoke took a 42-28 lead into the break.
  • The Maroons wasted little time at the start of the second half as the held all the momentum. A Greene three-pointer would grow the lead to 56-35 with over 14-minutes left to play.
  • Another Rosenthal 3-pointer ahead of a Joshua Morse bucket and the lead was 72-42. With 5:15 left to play, Trent Dawson scored after a steal and the lead was 86-46.
  • In total, 13 different Maroons would score as Roanoke completed the season sweep of the Hornets with a 97-57 ODAC win.
  • Rosenthal hit 5-10 from long range on his way to a team-high 15 points while picking up four steals. U-Edosomwan added 13 points with nine rebounds and Kasey Draper added 12 and six boards while Morse grabbed 10 rebounds in just 11 minutes of play.
  • Prior to tip, seniors Greene and Price were honored in front of a packed Cregger Center crowd. Greene would score 11 and Price finished with 10 points and five assists on "Senior Night".
