Roanoke Takes Two in ODAC Double Header Against Bridgewater

The Basics
Score: Roanoke 5, Bridgewater 1
Records: Maroons 19-10, Eagles 20-15

Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke sweeps Bridgewater in their ODAC doubleheader. The Maroons were quick to bring in runs in game one by taking the lead in the first inning. They continued to add runs to end with a score of 5-1. Game two started in a similar setting with the Maroons taking an early lead in the first inning to lead to a 6-2 win.

Highlights:

  • In the top of the first Bridgewater jumped on top by one. The Maroons were quick to respond in the bottom of the first. With runners on first and second Molly Epperson singled into center field to bring in a run. Kate Houle followed with a fly ball into right field that would plate a run.
  • With two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the second Meri Bostic singled into left center to bring in a run. The Maroons were able to get runners on second and third before Adriana Rivera doubled into left field to bring in two more runs.

Highlights:

  • The Maroons took an early lead in the bottom of the first with fielder's choice infield hit that allowed a run to score. With bases loaded Lilly Burns hit a deep fly ball into left with to bring in another run.
  • Lauren Hoffman and Houle led off the top of the third with two singles and was followed by an error by the shortstop to load the bases. Rachel Sirbaugh hit a line drive single into center field to plate two runs.
  • After two scoreless innings Roanoke was able to put runners on second and third. Rivera hit a deep fly ball into center field to bring in a run. Madison Cooke followed with a pinch-hit single through the left side that brought in a run.
  • Rivera went 3 for 5 with three RBI's on the day.
