The Lead: For the final time this regular season, the Roanoke women's soccer team was on the road when they made the trip to face Randolph-Macon on Sunday afternoon. The two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes would end the 90 minutes of regulation in a scoreless tie. However, just over three minutes into overtime the Maroons were awarded a penalty shot that was put into the back of the Yellow Jackets net for the 1-0 win.

Highlights:

  • Roanoke would get the first shot of the match when Tessa Walsh got off a shot at the 6:30 mark. Almost 20 minutes into the match, Lucy Perry would get the first shot on goal.
  • The Maroons would out-shoot their hosts, 8-3, but neither team scored and the match would be 0-0 at the break.
  • The second half would be more of the same. Randolph-Macon would finally put some shots on the Roanoke goal but Carrington Lippi was a perfect 3-3 on save opportunities.
  • When the final horn sounded, the game was still scoreless and headed into overtime.
  • 2:26 into the extra frame, the Yellow Jackets would get off a shot but it was off the mark.
  • One minute later, a foul was called on Randolph-Macon in the box and a penalty shot was awarded. Perry took the shot for the Maroons and ended the match with a goal 3:28 into the overtime.
