Maroons Sweep Day Two in Florida

The Basics

Records: Maroons 2-0, Vikings 1-6

The Lead: The Roanoke softball team started their second day in Florida with a 3-1 victory against the Vikings of Itasca. The Maroons followed up their first game with a 10-2 victory against the Cyclones of St. Cloud Technical & Community College.

Highlights:

  • After a scoreless first inning, Madison Cooke drew a walk to reach first.  Lauryn Chappell hit a deep single into left field to advance the runner. Erin Gorschboth drew another walk to load the bases. Jordyn DiFava got hit by a pitch which scored Cooke. Chappell and Gorschboth scored on a wild pitch.

The Lead: The Maroons followed up their game one victory with an 10-2 win over the Cyclones of St. Cloud Technical & Community College

Highlights:

  • Starting off the second inning Kate Houle reached first off a walk. Lilly Burns followed with a double off the fence to put runners on second and third. Molly Epperson hit a deep single to score Houle and Burns. Adriana Rivera hit a single into deep right field scoring Epperson.
  • After two scoreless innings Rivera reached first on a walk, shortly after Rachel Sirbaugh launched a ball over the center field extending Maroons' lead to 5-0. Houle hit a line drive triple into left field. Followed by a single from Epperson to score Houle.
  • In the sixth inning Bostic lead off the inning with a walk. Rivera Followed with a double to right center field putting runners on second and third. Sirbaugh hit a deep ball into right center field scoring both Burns and Rivera. Madison Courts blasted one over center field extending the Maroons score to 10-2

By the Numbers:

  • Lauren Hoffman got the win in game one for pitching all seven innings with 9 strikeouts and allowing only one run.
  • Lindsay Gedro got the win in game two pitching the first six innings with 11 strike outs and allowing only two runs.
  • Epperson ended the day 2-4 with 3 RBI's
  • Rivera finished game two going 3 for 3

Up next: The Maroons play another two games in Florida on Thursday, starting with a contest against Mount Mary at 2:00 pm and another one at 4:30pm against Wentworth.
