The Lead: The No. 16 Roanoke women's lacrosse team won its second game in as many days as the Maroons picked up a 22-3 win over Guilford on Wednesday evening on the road.

How it Happened/Highlights:

  • It was once again a quick start for the Maroons with Roanoke taking a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes with goals by Kate Loughran, Libby Bowman, and Lilly Blair. A single Quaker goal broke the run, but it was nearly 38 minutes before Guilford scored again. Three more Maroon goals ended the first quarter and saw Roanoke take a 6-1 lead into the second period.
  • The Maroons added eight more goals, with six assists, in the second quarter. Blair, Bowman, Sydney Harrison, Nicole Harrison, Soria Ebert, Keely Dent, and Tierney Maloney all found the back of the cage to help the Maroons to a 14-1 halftime lead.
  • Roanoke went on to score the first four goals of the third quarter before Guilford scored back-to-back goals to end the third and start the fourth quarter.
  • Roanoke closed out with four more goals to provide for the final 22-3 win.
  • The Maroons were led by Blair's five goals and two assists. She also added a ground ball and a caused turnover.
  • Sophia Chickering won 17 of Roanoke's 22 draw controls while also snagging a ground ball.
  • Amber Stallings picked up her first career win, playing all 60 minutes in the cage, making five saves.
