The Short Story: Roanoke won its first match of the spring season, sweeping Mary Baldwin to start off its spring break trip in Hilton Head.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Roanoke assumed a 3-0 lead by sweeping the points from doubles play. Halle Fernstrum and Julia Bassett beat Hannah Eastridge and Virani Bhagat 8-3 at #1, Lia Streibich and Victoria Rios downed Lauren Hodgkins and Liz Wine 8-0 at #2, and Zane Maiden and Emma Johnson topped Lauren Byrnes and Savannah Trujillo 8-1 at the #3 spot.
• The Maroons cemented the match victory with wins at #2 and #3 singles. Streibich defeated Baghat 6-0, 6-0 at the #2 spot, and Bassett dispatched Hodgkins 6-2, 6-1 at #3.
• Roanoke rounded out the sweep with four more singles victories: Fernstrum over Eastridge 6-3, 6-3 at #1; Rios against Wine 6-0, 6-1 at #4; Maiden over Trujillo 6-1, 6-1 at #5, and Maddie Morrell over Byrnes 6-2, 6-4 at #6.
