No. 20 Maroons Exorcised The FDU-Florham Devils at USA Lacrosse Complex

The Lead: The No. 20 Roanoke women's lacrosse team made the most of the opportunity to play the USA Lacrosse facility in Sparks, Md. by taking down FDU-Florham, 20-5, on Friday evening.  

How it Happened/Highlights:

  • The first quarter was all Maroons with Libby Bowman leading the way with three goals while Tiernan Connor and Kate Loughran added two more as Roanoke led 5-0 after the first 15 minutes.
  • Grace Koutouzis scored what would be the game-winner at 12:42 on a free position shot in the second quarter. The goal was the first of three straight for Roanoke as Lilly Blair scored two in less than a minute with Koutouzis assisting on both, as the Maroons took an 8-1 lead at 5:47. The Devils would score three goals in the period, broken up by a second Loughran goal, as Roanoke led 9-3 at halftime.
  • The third quarter saw Roanoke extend its lead to 13-3 by 9:54 with two more goals by Bowman, one by Blair, and the fourth by Sydney Harrison. The two teams then traded goals at 3:50 and a second Harrison goal at 2:57 as the Maroons maintained their 10-goal lead heading into the fourth.
  • Two goals by the Maroons (Tracey Benzing and Harrison) were answered with Devils' goal at 9:04. But Roanoke closed the game out with four unanswered goals by Bowman, Blair, Nicole Harrison, and Tierney Maloney to finish the game 20-5.
  • Nine different players scored a goal and six different ones assisted for the Maroons against FDU-F.
  • Bowman and Bowman each finished with six points. Bowman scored six goals and Blair tallied four goals and dished out two assists.

Up Next: Roanoke is back at home on Thursday, March 16 when it hosts Illinois Wesleyan. Game time with the Titans is scheduled for 4 p.m.
