The Short Story: In what felt like a near home match, the Roanoke College women's volleyball team traveled less than 10 miles for a road contest at Hollins on Wednesday evening. The Maroons made quick work of the cross-town rival 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons only trailed for one point in the opening set at 1-0 in favor of Hollins. Roanoke led the rest of the way and by as many as eight on several points late in the set. The Maroons pulled away lad for the 25-17 set win.
  • The second set went back and forth early on with Hollins leading 12-10. Roanoke went a trio of three-point runs to take the lead late at 21-17. Roanoke scored four of the final six points of the set, capitalized by a kill by Rylee Mayer.
  • Hollins led 2-1 in the third set, but the Maroons outscored the hosts 24-10 the rest of the set, including eight of the final nine points to win the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.

  • Roanoke concludes its month-long road trip with a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, October 22 when they visit Goucher. The Maroons will take on the host Gophers as well as Rutgers-Camden. Game times are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
