The Lead: Down two sets to one, the Roanoke College volleyball team nearly completed a comeback in the 2022 season opener at the Cougar Classic but fell in a tightly contested match 3-2 to Bob Jones University in Danville.
Highlights:
- The Bruins led 10-5 early in the first set before the Maroons went on a 10-1 run to take a 15-12 lead.
- After Bob Jones reclaimed the lead and had a 23-19 advantage, RC rallied off four straight points before the teams went back and forth to force extra points in the first set with the Bruins claiming the set 31-29 off an ace.
- The Maroons used a late run in the second set to even the match up at one set apiece with a 25-23 set two win.
- BJU took the lead back with a close third set 25-22 over the Maroons.
- Not to go away, RC held the lead for most of the fourth set and forced a deciding set with a 25-21 win.
- Despite taking an early lead in the fifth, the Bruins allowed the Maroons to come back before scoring the final two points to win the match in five sets
- Four Maroons scored double-digit kills with both Peyton Kirchner and Rylee Mayer each having a team-leading 15 kills. Kylee Draper had a match-high 48 assists.

The Lead: The Roanoke College women's volleyball team dropped both matches on Day 1 of the 2022 Cougar Classic after falling to William Peace in three sets to end the evening.
Highlights:
- The Pacers took early leads in each of the three sets en route to the sweep over the Maroons to finish day 1 of the 2022 Cougar Classic.
- Rylee Mayer finished the match with 13 of the Maroons' 28 kills. For Day 1 she totaled 28 kills over the two matches.
- For the second match in a row, Kylee Draper had the match-high assists with 25, totaling 73 on Day 1
Up Next: The Maroons will wrap up action at the Cougar Classic with a pair of matches against Piedmont and Meredith on Saturday. First serve against PC is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. with the match against the Avenging Angels to follow after 1:30 p.m.
