The Basics
Score: Roanoke  61 | Shenandoah 59
Records: Maroons 3-1, 3-0 ODAC | Hornets 0-2, 0-2 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke College men's basketball team faced Shenandoah on Saturday night in a game, originally scheduled to be played in Winchester but was moved to the RC campus due to a venue conflict. After winning on a last second shot against Ferrum on Thursday, the Maroons used a last second stop to preserve a two-point win over the Hornets.

How it Happened:

  • In a theme that would repeat itself all night long, the game would go back and forth in the opening minutes of play. The Hornets would score first but an Ethan Rohan free throw and Efosa Edosomwan jump shot would give Roanoke their first lead of the game.
  • Back-to-back triples would see the Hornets go up by three before an "old fashion" three-point play by Justin Kuthan would tie it at 13-13.
  • Shenandoah would experience their largest lead of the night, 36-30, with just two minutes left before the half.
  • Edosomwan would cut it to four and with just :04 on the clock, Jim Coulter would bury his second, three-pointer of the half to make it a one point game at the break.
  • The first 20 minutes would see six ties and eight lead changes.
  • Kasey Draper scored out of the break to put RC back in front before the Hornets answered with five in a row. Tripp Greene scored from downtown to spark the Maroons to a 10-0 run, giving the home team their largest lead of the evening, 47-41.
  • The advantage wouldn't last long and as the game entered the final 10 minutes of play, the score was tied at 49-49.
  • The lead would trade hands with the Hornets up one, 58-57, with 3:55 left on the clock. Greene would give the edge back to the Maroons and Edosomwan would stretch it to three with a layup at the 1:20 mark.
  • The Hornets got to the line for a pair with :45 to play, but only hit one of two.
  • On the ensuing possession, Rohan would save the day when the sophomore dove on the floor for a loose ball and alertly called a timeout to prevent a fast break opportunity. The Maroons didn't score and that led to a flurry of timeouts by both benches.
  • Shenandoah had one last chance, but a drive to the baseline would see the Hornet player's foot hit the end line giving the ball back to Roanoke. The Maroons got the ball inbounds and dribbled out the clock for the two-point win.
  • Edosomwan led RC with 15 points while Draper would add 12 and six rebounds. Kuthan and Coulter combined for 15 of Roanoke's 16 points off the bench. Rohan scored six and grabbed 13 rebounds with a pair of blocked shots.
  • Jaylen Williams scored 15 and Deondre McNeill had a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards.

Up next: Roanoke will complete their five game home stand to start the season when they play host to Emory & Henry on Tuesday night. The game with the Wasps is scheduled to tip at 7:00pm as the Maroons look to start the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule with four consecutive victories.
