The Lead: The Roanoke women's soccer team played host to the University of Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon. The match was the final regular season and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest before the start of the conference tournament on Tuesday. Roanoke scored first and added a second half goal to close out the regular season with their fourth consecutive victory.

Highlights:

  • The two long time ODAC rivals would each register seven first half shots.
  • Roanoke got on the board about mid-way through the first half when Ellie Schad scored an unassisted goal from right in front of the net to make it 1-0.
  • Carrington Lippi stopped both Hornet shots that were on goal to give the Maroons a 1-0 advantage at the break.
  • At the 52:50 mark, Roanoke was awarded a corner kick. Emma Woods sent a perfect ball into the box where Lucy Perry headed it to the top of the net for a 2-0 lead.
  • The Roanoke defense did the rest as they were able to keep Lynchburg off the board despite 11 second half shots by the visitors.
  • Lippi wrapped up the win by recording saves on each of the Hornets five shots on goal.

Up next: The ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament is slated to start on Tuesday and with the win the Maroons will host a quarterfinal match, opponent and time are to be determined.
