The Lead: The Roanoke women's lacrosse team traveled to Lynchburg on Thursday night to take on the Hornets in the first of two meetings this spring. The game tonight was a non-conference matchup of long-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals. Lynchburg scored the first three goals of the evening with Roanoke answering to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the half. The Hornets enjoyed an 8-7, fourth quarter advantage, but the Maroons closed the game on a 3-0 run to take the game, 10-8.  

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke trailed, 3-0, after one period of play. Libby Bowman scored to get Roanoke on the board just about mid-way through the second quarter. Lilly Blair scored with just under three-minutes to play before the half and in the closing seconds of the second period, Blair scored off a pass from Molly Kasemeyer to send the teams to the locker rooms with a 3-3 tie.
  • The Hornets scored the first two goals of the second half to once again take the lead. Blair completed the hat trick ahead of a game tying score by Riley Chase.
  • For the third time, Lynchburg scored back-to-back goals to pull ahead. In the final minutes of the third quarter, Grace Koutouzis cut the deficit in half and the game would move to the final period with the home team enjoying a 7-6 edge.
  • Nicole Harrison tied the game at 7-7, but just over 20-seconds later, the Hornets would be in front once again.
  • The final nine minutes would belong to the Maroons. Consecutive scores by Koutouzis put RC in front for the first time with just under five-minutes remaining on the clock. At the 3:36 mark, Blair scored her fourth goal of the contest to give Roanoke the non-conference win, 10-8.
  • Blair had four goals with Koutouzis scoring three times. Chase added a goal and an assist while Kasemeyer and Tiernan Connor each handed out one helper. Blair picked up four ground balls with Sydney Harrison scooping up three to go with four caused turnovers. Kyleigh Chickering recorded 11 saves in picking up her third win of the season in goal.
