The Lead: It might have been a cool, rainy night, but the action between No. 20 Roanoke women's lacrosse and Mary Washington was hot as the Maroons scored in every quarter en route to a 10-6 win over the Eagles on Friday afternoon. 

How it Happened/Highlights:

• Grace Koutouzis got the Maroons on the scoreboard first with a free-position goal just under a minute and a half into the game. The Eagles responded with their own free-position goal just under two minutes later to level the game at 1-1. Libby Bowman gave the Maroons the lead back at 7:50 with an unassisted goal, 2-1.
• UMW opened the second quarter with a goal at 11:29 to once again tie the score up at 2-2. The nationally-ranked Maroons answered back with three goals in a five-minute span starting with Bowman's second goal, split with a goal by Sydney Harrison (assist by Koutouzis), and capped by a goal by Koutouzis with an assist by Addison Schmidt at 05:11. The run put the Maroons up 5-2. With just over four minutes left before halftime, the Eagles scored a second free-position goal to get back within two at the break.
• The two teams each found the back of the cage once in the third quarter with Koutouzis scoring her third goal of the game and the Eagles scoring a woman-up goal with 33 seconds left.
• Already leading 6-4, Roanoke extended their lead in the fourth with four goals, two by Bowman and two by Koutouzis. The Eagles scored a goal with 28 seconds left to cut the final score in favor of the Maroons, 10-6.
• Koutouzis led the offensive effort with her second five-goal game of the season while adding an assist. Bowman scored four goals for the Maroons. 
• Schmidt led on the defensive side of the field with five caused turnovers and five ground balls. Eight different Maroons forced an Eagles turnover. 
• Kyleigh Chickering played all 60 minutes needing to make just three saves to earn her third win in three games this season.
• Roanoke led UMW in several categories including ground balls (25-10), successful clears (19-15), and shots (35-12). The Maroons committed just five turnovers while the Eagles tallied 22. The two teams each finished with 10 draw control wins. 

Up Next: Roanoke has a quick turnaround with a contest on Sunday, March 6 when they host Kean. The first draw control with the Cougars is scheduled for 1 p.m.
