The Lead: The No. 18 Roanoke women's lacrosse team scored two goals in the first minute en route to a 15-9 ODAC win over Randolph-Macon at Kerr Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Highlights:

  • Lilly Blair took the opening draw control passed to Tiernan Connor and scored in the first 11 seconds of the game against the Yellow Jackets to put Roanoke ahead early on. A free position shot by Grace Koutouzis less than a minute later saw the Maroons have a 2-0 lead less than a minute into the game. A third Maroon goal in the first quarter saw Libby Bowman score, unassisted with 12:47 left in the period. R-MC responded by going on a run of their own with three goals late in the period to tie the score at 3-3 after the first 15 minutes.
  • The Yellow Jackets continued their run with two more goals to open the second quarter, taking a 5-3 lead with the Maroons taking a time-out. The regrouping worked as Roanoke scored four goals to end the first half, including a pair of woman-up goals, from Kate Loughran (x2), Soria Ebert, and Tracey Benzing. The Maroons had retaken the lead 7-5 going into halftime.
  • The second half started where the second quarter ended with Blair taking a pass from Loughran to put the Maroons ahead with Roanoke's eighth goal of the contest. A Yellow Jacket goal was responded to by a pair of Maroon goals to close out the third quarter with Roanoke leading by four, 10-6.
  • R-MC scored first in the fourth, but a quick response from the Maroons saw Sydney Harrison, Connor, and Koutouzis each score to put the Maroons ahead by six at 9:27. Another R-MC goal brought the visitors back within five with just over five minutes left, but two more Roanoke goals by Connor and Bowman put the game out of reach, despite an R-MC goal with 26 seconds left as the Maroons left with the 15-9 win.
  • Both Connor and Loughran each scored three goals for the Maroons.
  • Three Maroons finished with four points as Loughran (3g, 1a), Blair (1g, 3a), and Bowman (2g, 2a) all secured Roanoke's win.
  • In addition to two goals, Harrison was able to grab eight ground balls and force two caused turnovers. Addison Schmidt was right with Harrison with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Up next: The Maroons hit the road on Wednesday, April 12 when they pay a visit to Lynchburg for a midweek ODAC contest. The first draw control with the Hornets is scheduled for 7 p.m.
