Blair, Schmidt Honored on Senior Day as Maroons Win 23-2 Over Bridgewater

The Lead: The No. 16 Roanoke women's lacrosse team honored its two seniors prior to today's ODAC contest with Bridgewater, before getting the 23-2 win over the Eagles. Both Lilly Blair and Addison Schmidt were celebrated for their dedication to the Maroons over their careers. 

How it Happened/Highlights:

  • The game was all Maroons from the beginning. Roanoke got a running clock started with three minutes left in the first quarter after scoring the first 10 goals of the game. One more was added before the second period began. 
  • The second quarter saw four more goals by the Maroons to take a 15-0 lead into the intermission. Nine different Roanoke players scored for the home team in the opening half including four goals from Libby Bowman
  • Things slightly picked up for the Maroons in the third with six more goals, including two from free-position attempts. 
  • The fourth quarter saw Blair score her first goal as well as Ali Carpentier's second to put the Maroons up 23-0. The Eagles got on the scoreboard at 10:43 with a free-position goal and followed up with the game's final scoreboard addition at 7:27 to provide for the final 23-2 margin of victory for the Maroons. 
  • In total, 12 different Maroons scored, led by Bowman's five goals and two assists. Bowman also had four ground balls and five draw control wins. 
  • Schmidt led the defensive effort for Roanoke with five ground balls and five caused turnovers. She also had scored a woman-down goal in the first quarter.
  • Kyleigh Chickering played the first half in the cage, only needing to make one save to earn her 13th win of the season. 

Up Next: With the win, the Maroons have secured at least the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 2023 ODAC Tournament. Roanoke advances to the semifinals where they will host on Friday, May 5 against an opponent to be determined and a time to be announced.
