The Lead: The 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Lacrosse Championship was contested in Lexington on Sunday afternoon. Roanoke College the #2 seed took their #25 national ranking to Washington and Lee to face the #1 seeded Generals and their #2 national ranking for the ODAC title. Roanoke scored first but the lead was traded back and forth with W&L taking a 6-5 advantage into the break. Six unanswered scores to start the second half would see the Generals pull away for the Championship win, 17-9.

How it Happened:

  • Just 45 seconds into the game, Emerson Foster gave Roanoke a 1-0 lead.
  • Three Washington and Lee goals would give the advantage to the home team. Back-to-back goals from Lilly Blair would tie the score at 3-3 after 10 minutes of play.
  • Another three goal run would see W&L pull away once again.
  • Tiernan Connor converted a free position opportunity to pull the Maroons closer. With just over a minute and half to go, Foster scored to make it a one score game at the break, 6-5.
  • Washington and Lee exploded out of the break, netting six straight goals to push their advantage to seven.
  • Connor scored two times and Blair set up Molly Kasemeyer to cut the deficit to 13-8.
  • Four more General tallies would end any hopes of a Roanoke comeback as Washington and Lee would claim the 2021 ODAC crown with a 17-9 win.
  • Blair had three goals and two helpers while Conner added three scores and Foster found the back of the net twice. Blair and Foster each won three draw controls and Frances Sefcik picked up three ground balls.
  • Carly Schoudel registered six saves in goal for the Maroons.
  • Foster, Schoudel, and Claire Eisenhart were named to the All Tournament Team.
