The Short Story:  The Roanoke College men's soccer team fell to the Cardinals of the Catholic University of America, 2-0, at a neutral site location in Loudoun County. The game was played at Segra Field, home of Loudoun United FC, a team affiliated with DC United, and the primary facility for the Washington Spirit of the National Women's Soccer League.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons took the first shot of the game, which was saved by the Cardinal goalie in the second minute. It was the only shot on goal for Roanoke in the contest.
  • After nearly seven minutes of no shots for either team, Catholic broke through with a goal at 12:39 of the first half when Gordie Bemlohr took a pass from Domenico Caltabiano.
  • 12 minutes later Darius Siahpoosh took a pass from Bemlohr to put the Cardinals up 2-0 just over halfway through the opening period.
  • Catholic held on for the 2-0 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Jake Berecz had a team-high three shots against the Cardinals
  • Zach Behe (1-1-1) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Maroons, making four saves.
  • Roanoke took more corner kicks than Catholic (3-2) and more saves (4-1) in goal.
