The Short Story: The Roanoke College women's volleyball team dropped an ODAC contest on the road in Virginia Beach on Friday evening to Virginia Wesleyan, 3-0. The match was delayed by nearly two and a half hours due to a power outage at the Batton Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons kept the first set close early on pulling within one at 8-7. However, the Marlins used four and three-point runs to pull away. VWU held on for a 25-18 set one win to lead the match after one set.
  • The second set was much like the first early on with the score tied at 6-6 and 9-9. The Marlins led by as many as three and kept that lead at 17-14. The Marlins went on to win 11 of the next 12 points to come from behind in the set to take a 2-0 lead over Roanoke.
  • In the third set, the VWU built a six-point lead at 19-13. The Maroons chipped away and pulled within one at 22-21, but the Marlins scored the final three points for the match win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Kylee Draper recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 18 assists and 12 digs.
  • Rylee Mayer had a team-high seven kills against VWU.
