THE GAME FACTS

  • The Short Story: The Violets of New York University used a barrage of three-pointers to claim the title at the 2022 Cregger Invitational over the Roanoke men's basketball team, 81-59, on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Violets jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the game at the 17:07 mark before Roanoke answered back with a 7-0 run of their own to pull within two at 15:24, 9-7. A 15-3 run by NYU gave the visitors a 24-12 lead with 9:11 left in the first half.
  • Over the next six minutes of action, the Maroons would once again go on a run, scoring 13 of the next 17 points to pull within five with 1:34 left before the break. Neither team was able to put the ball through the hoop before the break to give the Violets the lead at halftime.
  • The second half saw NYU hit 13 of 20 of their three-point attempts to pull away from the Maroons. Tournament MVP Spencer Freedman of the Violets made six of his seven three's in the second half.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Roanoke led the Violets in second chance points (7-5), points in the paint (30-20), fast break points (12-8), and bench points (35-25).
  • Zach Rosenthal led the Maroons in scoring both games of the Cregger Invitational with 16 against NYU. Joshua McClary also reached double figures with 10.
