No. 18 Maroons Drop ODAC Contest to No. 2 Washington and Lee

The Lead: The Roanoke women's lacrosse team had an early lead on the No. 2 Generals, but Washington and Lee went on a 8-0 run to pull away for a 17-7 ODAC win at Kerr Stadium.

How it Happened/Highlights:

  • Neither team could score in nearly the first 10 minutes of the game with WLU finding the back of the cage first with a goal at 5:36 and a second one at 4:15. The Maroons responded scoring twice themselves in the final three minutes with a pair of goals by Grace Koutouzis at 2:55 and 1:09 to level the match after the first quarter.
  • The Maroons got a third goal by Koutouzis just over a minute into the second quarter to take a 3-2 lead on the Generals. WLU would go on a 8-0 run that stretched into the third quarter to take a 10-3 lead.
  • The Maroons stopped the run with a goal by Lilly Blair at 6:58 of the third off an assist from Koutouzis.
  • A 6-0 run by the Generals, that stretched into the fourth quarter, was this time stopped by Kate Loughran off Koutouzis' assist, her fifth point of the game, with 9:33 left in the game.
  • The goal was followed almost immediately by another for the Maroons, this one by Libby Bowman off an assist from Blair at 7:49. After a WLU goal, Koutouzis scored her fourth goal of the contest with 3:35 remaining. The Generals held for the last possession in a 17-7 win over the Maroons.

Up Next: Roanoke will look to bounce back on Saturday, April 8 when they host Randolph-Macon in another ODAC matchup. The first draw control with the Yellow Jackets is schedule for 1 p.m.
