The Short Story: The Roanoke men's basketball team scored early and often on Wednesday night at the Maroons hit triple digits with a 101-53 win over the Ferrum Panthers on the road. Both Kasey Draper (25) and Zach Rosenthal (22) scored more than 20 points for the Maroons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Draper hit the first three, three-pointers he attempted and put the Maroons ahead 9-0 less than two minutes into the game, forcing Ferrum to take a timeout. After a quick Panther basket, the Maroons went on another 8-0 run to lead 17-2 with 14:57 left in the first half. Over the next 10 minutes, Roanoke maintained a lead of at least 12 and as large by as many as 19 on a Justin Kuthan layup at 4:59, 31-12.
  • With the Marrons ahead 45-24 with five seconds left, Kuthan made a layup off an assist from Joshua McClary. On the Ferrum inbounds, both players were out of bounds and attempted to bring the ball up court and the Panthers got called for a turnover with two seconds left. McClary took the ball out for the Maroons and this time lobbed the ball to Efosa U-Edosomwan to put it through the rim, giving Roanoke the 49-24 lead at the half.
  • The Maroons continued to play a strong defense against the Panthers allowing just 30 points over the next 30 minutes while scoring 52 of their own to put away the game. It was a three-point basket by Patrick Clevenger with 31 seconds left that put the Maroons into triple-digit scoring.
