The Lead: When the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 poll was released on Monday, the Maroons came in ranked #13 as they welcomed Greensboro College to the Moyer Complex on Thursday afternoon. Roanoke rallied for two runs in the fifth to take game one, 2-1. In game two, the Maroons would take a 2-1 advantage and hold on for the 3-2 win over the Pride.

Highlights:

  • Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Adriana Rivera pinch hit and delivered a single to right center and then stole second base to get into scoring position. Serenity Bishop drew a two-out walk to put a pair of runners on base. Shanan Hester sent a double to left center to plate a pair and put RC in front, 2-1.
  • Jada Karnes did the rest, retiring the Pride in order in the sixth and again in the seventh to secure her ninth win of the season. Karnes went seven innings, giving up three hits, one run, all while recording seven strikeouts.
  • Roanoke got just the hits by Rivera and Hester as the duo combined to go 2-4 with a run and two RBI.

Highlights:

  • Meri Bostic doubled to left ahead of a Hester RBI double to put the Maroons in front, 1-0, after on full inning of play.
  • Two innings later, Morgan Clark led off with a triple and would make it 2-0 after a base hit by Bostic.
  • Greensboro would score one in the top of the fourth. In the bottom half, A Bostic sacrifice fly would send Sammie Murphy home for what proved to be the game winning run as RC would go on for the 3-2 victory.
  • Karnes once again started and pitched three shutout innings. Lauren Hoffman pitched the fourth and picked up the win. Hester worked the final three innings, giving up just two hits to earn the save.
  • Bostic was 2-2 with a run and two RBI with Hester finishing the game 2-3 with an RBI and Clark was 2-3 with a run scored.

Up next: Roanoke travels to #4 Christopher Newport on Saturday for a double header with the Captains.
