The Short Story: The Roanoke College men's tennis team swept the doubles matches before splitting the six singles to pick up a win in their season-opener against Johnson (Tenn.) at the Elizabeth campus.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons won all three doubles matches with the team of Hardt Lesko and Jackson Wagner getting Roanoke on the board first at #3 doubles with an 8-2.
  • All the Maroons needed in singles was two wins two of the matches. The Royals picked up a win at #2 singles followed by Federico Maccari winning for the Maroons at #1 singles to put Roanoke within one win of the match.
  • After Johnson pulled back within two, Julio Marques won his match in three sets including a tiebreak in the third set 7-6 (8).
  • John-Henry Herrington would win his match at #6 singles to provide for the final margin.

UP NEXT

  • Roanoke will be back on court on Sunday, September 25 when it hosts NCAA Division II opponent, UVA-Wise. Match time with the Cavaliers is scheduled for 11 a.m.
