The Lead: Lynchburg used five extra-base hits to pull away from the Roanoke baseball team in game one of their ODAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Salem Memorial BallPark. As a team, the Maroons hit for a cycle with a single, double, triple, and home run in a 3-1 game two win over the No. 12 Hornets to split the two games on the day.

Highlights:

• The Hornets pulled ahead 5-0 after the top of the fifth with Roanoke responding in their half of the inning. After a walk and fly out, Spencer Rhoads singled to left that put runners on first and second. Carson McCusker followed up with a single to right that sent Caleb Grizzard (who walked) home and Rhoads to third. Jacob Bonzon followed with a sac. fly to right that Rhoads scored on and McCusker advanced to third. A Mason Staz single up the middle scored McCusker, cutting the Lynchburg lead down to 5-3 after five complete.
• Lynchburg got all three runs back over the next two innings with the Maroons adding one more in the bottom of the seventh. 
• A Hornet insurance run in the top of the ninth saw Lynchburg secure a 9-4 game-one win.

Records: Red Devils 1-3, Maroons 2-4
Location: Salem, Va.

Highlights:

• Lynchburg got on the board first in game two with a solo home run to lead off the top of the third inning. However, it was the only run they would score as a stingy Maroon defense proved to be too much in the second game. 
• In the bottom of the fifth with two outs, Corey Coogan walked and stole second for the Maroons. A Bonzon double down the left field line scored Coogan and tied the score at 1-1. Staz followed up immediately with a single through the left side that allowed Bonzon to score from second, giving the Maroons a 2-1 lead after five complete. 
• After a flyout to start the bottom of the sixth, Corey Butler hit his first home run of the second with a blast over the fence in left-center adding to the Roanoke lead, 3-1. It would be all the offense the Maroons needed as Roanoke held on for the game-two win.
• Caleb Lingenfelter pitched the first seven innings to secure his fourth win of the season, striking out five and allowing only one run. Isaac Brooks earned his first career save, pitching the final two innings, giving up just one hit and inducing three grounds outs and two fly outs.

Up next: Roanoke is back at Salem Memorial Ballpark for a non-conference, single game against Pfeiffer on Tuesday, March 21. The first pitch with the Falcons is scheduled for 4 p.m.
